It looks nothing like Alien Grunt from original Half-Life, I thought that was the point, since it's supposed to be a recreation.

I'm thinking now it's more along the lines of a 'Re-Imagining'.

HL's art style sucked anyways. Sure it was pretty cool in the 90's but now.......

You can find some more media here, like the alien controller and some hot new zombie renders.

Do you know how many people prefer Black Mesa to City-17?

You're talking setting, I'm thinking more texture/model.

Think of it this way, compare the 4 iterations of votiguant the HL games have seen, each one different artistically from the last, each one an improvement over the last. It's just how things progress, newer games are better then older ones in almost every respect. Part of it is technology, but the newer, slimy, slightly different proportioned vort is way better looking then the way more 'hunchy', rough skinned vorts before it. Art styles change, the proportions of the old alien grunt were strange and made little sense. Why would something that evolved on a low gravity world be so bulky and muscular? At any rate the surface textures of it are mostly the same. It's not change for the sake of change. It's just them trying to bring the art of HL more up to date in a similar manner to what Valve did with the vorts. Imo that's pretty understandable.

I actually like the body, but the head and armor (especially helmet) make it look like a futuristic Nazi-Zombie-thing.
I'd more expect to see it in a game like wolfenstein not in half-life / Black-mesa.
The old one really had that feeling, it was coming from a different world, that feeling now got kinda lost in the new design.
It's still super-quality work of course.

Panzer-Cops anyone?

Nice, that there's at least some media for Chrismas, but I don't really like where the design of the alien-characters is going...

Yeah they said it won't be released this year... uhg.

"Hello Black Mesa fans!

We come to you once again with an update. It's now the end of 2009, and we know many of you have literally counted the days down until this fateful month. We are floored by the level of support you have given us and are very excited we're so close to reaching our goal.

Unfortunately, to our great disappointment, Black Mesa will not make a 2009 release.

Cynics may now rejoice, bets may be collected, and I think a mod team member has to eat his shoe, but we hope our loyal fans will forgive us and realize that the delay will translate into a better final product that's (hopefully) more easily available to everyone.

Once again we apologize for what has to be very disappointing news. We placed a 2009 deadline on ourselves to motivate us and bring this 6 year project to a close. And while we didn't quite make it, we have come very close and you can expect a complete, polished game to hit your hard drives in the near future. We'll be sure and update if anything changes. Until then, hang tight, it's coming! "

I am not surprised that this got delayed. Again. I'm surprised that people still care about the mod, I stopped caring 3 years ago. This is like the DNF of game mods.

They... ruined the Alien Grunt. The face, the helmet, the proportions... I mean sure, the proportions were a bit strange, but that is, imo, what made it memorable and fun to fight. Now it'll feel like I'm fighting some mutant body builder that needs to lay off the protein bars. :S

Not a fan.

<random>
I'm curious as to why the hgrunt zombies and barney zombies are going to have the same health as the sci zombies. WTF?!
The hgrunt ones took as many shots to kill as a normal hgrunt, same with the guards. Just a little thing that's gonna bug me :\
