Half-Life error

It hasn't been so long since I asked for a help with Midtown Madness II, and now my most favorite game, Half-Life, messed up.
I had some problems with viruses on my PC and I reinstalled the system. I kept my files though. I tried HL and everything worked well. But after about one hour I tried it again and it wrote me "Half-Life Launcher error" window with the option of sending/not sending the message to Microsoft. I tried reinstalling the game and the error was still there. I tried installing the game to different folder and it still doesn't work. I even tried to install patch but it made no difference.
Could somebody, please, help me? I really don't know what to do...

Is this WON or Steam?
System specs please, and the last time you reinstalled your operating system.

Oh, yes, of course. WON version. It's always worked fine. My last reinstall of the system was this week (wednesday I think, my cousin did it for me). But I have two hard discs, one with the data and one with the system. The one with the system was reinstalled and the other one wasn't touched. Some viruses made it to the data disc, but I deleted them. Last test didn't find any infection in the HL folder.

First things first: WON = WIN
Well, I use it, anyway.
I've seen an error like that before. I've also seen some odd ones like "Half-Life could not allocate XX.XXXXXKB of system memory" and the program wouldn't open.
Go to Add or Remove Programs
and uninstall Half-Life, Opposing Force, etc. ANYTHING that has to do with Half-Life (except for, say, Steam, because this is WON) INCLUDING Sierra Utilities or anything of the like.
Now
Restart your computer.
Once everything has started up, insert the Half-Life CD.
Install to something like C:\SIERRA\Half-Life or something of the like.
Don't register the product and don't Launch the game yet.
Next, install the 1.1.1.0 patch, which can be downloaded here:
http://www.filefront.com/thankyou.php?f=986769&k=733add16e1188faceaba6437c54971bc722c78594d6f965880e4d8ea699ec415
Install it.
Then, install Opposing Force, Blue Shift, Decay, or any mods if you want.
Try to run Half-Life.
Configure the graphics settings.
You may need to reinstall Windows so you can reinstall your default graphics card drivers.
Or you might just need the latest graphic card drivers from nvidia.com
Let me know how things turn out~

Is there any reason for running the WON version such as slow connection?
If not ditch WON and get the steam version.

Okay, I solved the problem myself (in a pretty weird way) and it works now. Thanks for comments.
By the way, if Steam didn't suck, I'd be using it....maybe. But I still prefer WON I can still play SC 3.0 there.

Out of curiousity, what exactly did you do?

You can play SC 3.0 on Steam too.
Still dont see why Steam sucks, but we have discussed it to death so lets not start it up again.

Well, I copied files from Half-Life folder of my sister to my Half-Life folder and it started working...
But OpenGL mod didn't work. So I downloaded patch 1.1.1.2 and the game stopped working again. I replaced hl.exe with the old hl.exe and now everything works fine again. Strange I think.

Yeah, it's my personal opinion, I usually have problems with Steam software. Oh, and I'm little oldschool too.
