Title: Flynias Guide To Removing Unecessary/Unwanted Models
Post by: flynia on October 28, 2005, 05:37:45 AM
Righteo Guys

After much thought on the issue i have decided to patch together a little post on how to remove those models you don't want to use in HLS-HD.

The first step is to browse to the following directory.

C:\<Path To Steam>\Steam\SteamApps\<username>\half-life source\hl1\

In this folder their will be several different subfolders... The ones we are looking for are named /models and /materials

Lets start with the /models one first... in this folder their will be a lot of individual files... 5-6 different ones for each model that we have added.

They are:

<modelname>.dx80.vtx
<modelname>.dx90.vtx
<modelname>.mdl
<modelname>.sw.vtx
<modelname>.vvd
<modelname>.phy
(may not always exist)

eg:

hgrunt.dx80.vtx
hgrunt.dx90.vtx
hgrunt.mdl
hgrunt.sw.vtx
hgrunt.vvd
hgrunt.phy

To remove the model just delete these 5-6 files :)

After you have done that you will need to delete the materials for it...

So open up that /materials directory... within that directory their should be dozens of different folders.

We are looking for the folder name that relates to the model we have just deleted...

In this case look for the folder named hgrunt and remove that.

Having done that it should then remove the grunt model from the game :)

All done :)

Wasn't that simple ;)

say if I wanted to rename it, would I have to hex edit all the files?  Or just one?

(This is so it will work in Garry's mod.. hehe.  Then I might release it.)

I meant a model.  Such as, Barney for instance.  So he doesn't replace Half-Life 2 barney, or a barnacle, or something.

You could rename the files if you wanted to:

eg: barney.phy.bak instead of barney.phy

Could you clarify the issue for me a little more by giving a example?

Example.

Say that I open Garry's mod, start a server with Half-Life 2 AND Half-Life Source enabled at the same time.  And I want to spawn Barney from Half-Life 2 and the HL-SD Barney at the same time.. the only way to do this is rename a model, or not do it at all.

Say I wanted to rename the model from HL-SD (barney.mdl) to hlbarney.mdl.  That way the game could use both barney.mdl from HL2 and hlbarney.mdl.

Hmmmm... I'm not to sure dude as the pack wasn't developed with Garrys Mod in mind :(

I'd say you would probably have errors with the materials directory... maybe ???

Try it and see would be my reccomendation :)
