Title: [HL 1 Mod] ReIssues Released!

YES I'm still alive. just like Glados...  ;)

After nearly 2 years of waiting it's finally here.

"Reissues" is a community compilation of 30 single player Half-Life 1 levels authored by a mix of various designers. Each one has created their own unique, self-contained chapter: you'll spelunk into ancient Egyptian tombs, scale mile-high cliff sides, and fight your way through several clever re-imaginings of Black Mesa - among other exciting setpieces!


They also made Issues one and  Project Quantum Leap they are also very fun mods.

Doesn't it have the Half-Life 2 GMan textures?
To be honest, from I've seen so far, the maps are nothing special. Lots of big rooms with no a lot in them.

I'll give it a go.  Looks a bit random - not sure I'll want to play 30 disjointed levels, having to repick up my weapons 30 times  :-\

Note about the level called " It's safer here"

There is a VR sky box that makes it look like HL2, it's a bit.. broken. Saving the game and loading it seems to fix it. Also, it tends to crash when some things die. I already sent an E-mail to the guy who made the map so he can release a hot-patch.

Generic HGrunt replacement.  Nothing special. 
The model is dump too, as is the GMan noted by Coozins (why are there LD HL1 models mixed with HL2 models/HL2 retextures?)

Ugh.I just finished playing 3 maps and i want that hour back  :( !
The thing is extremely buggy, most of the maps are botched and the whole thing is just mediocre.

I played the Ra, Echo and Coil chapters.  The Ra one was innovative, though unforgiving and a little boring; the Coil chapter I had to noclip on (grr), that chapter had good graphics although the lighting went LOL.
The Echo chapter... I can't remember what that was like now, so it can't have been all that great.  I'll hold out for the other chapters.

The skybox error is a pretty default bug because the mod uses an incomplete custom build from Spirit of Halflife.

However the crashing in that map series "its safer here" pissed me off, but I fixed it easily, I decompiled both combine soldier models and deleted the 01-03 and the t_ models. So that only one model is required. That fixed it for me.

THE FIRST PIC :o :o
Is that due the map/mod?? The awesome lighting and bloom??
I assume it has something to do with the HoE:EP?? Can you use that bloom for normal half-life too??
I would really love to have that ;D

I've recently played one of the ReIssues Episodes, dunno which. I quite enjoyed it, the difficulty was damn high... the difficulty was set to "hard", but it was still.... "overhard" :D I fear my HL-skills have decreased :P

Oh awesome, I thought this had been long abandoned! I remember seeing campaignjunkie's cliff map on the mapcore forums ages ago, I'll download when I get back from work :)

On Cyan I can't do anything because a Barney who's supposed to use a retinal scanner and let me through a door gets stuck in the middle of a wide corridor and refuses to move anywhere.

Hello people, Dumb old me posted a thread baout this in Mods.

Well, anyways, on to the good stuff. I've played second wind, the map where you try to power a teleport and Ra, so far. All three were great, Ra was fun with the puzzles, but the battles kind of weren't as fun.

The power-up map was Good all the way through, but it took me a long time to figure out how to defeat the tank with the savegames I had. Got stuck on the train once too.

Second Wind was great! Really nice map, I recommend playing it, too bad the introduction was way better than the pretty bad outro. But still. Also thanks for the model I can finally play that map now!

Hmm, I'm a bit confused. There are some maps which I would call... bad. They has no cool architecture or really interesting gameplay features (map with soldiers and vortigaunts fighting as allies and map with combines), I don't know what they're doing there. There are some maps with interesting idea, and good mapping but they are a bit boring (egypt-styled map, map about train) and there are awsome architectured map with such a lot of bugs, that it's freaking out (Second Wind, Cyan). Dunno if somebody tried to fix them, but this didn't worked - they are still have a load of errors. And, oh noes, there are... hmm... at least FOUR POWER GENERATORS in one mod.

Second Wind actually really spoke to me, maybe because the architechture felt very, Unreal 1 Esque, I really fucking liked that game, and its lore and all that.

The HL2 map was kinda short and stupid, but also kind of cool in a way, I also completed Coil, strange style, very nonlinear and disorientating.

I think. Second Wind uses some Prince of Persia (Sands of Time) ideas in architecture. I was nearly sure, that the room eith the water on the floor and the doorway on the unreachable height (there's bullsquid here) was created with using the idea of the room in POP.

I played the Satellite one today; it was pretty neat. Strangely the fog didn't work even though I had the OpenGL display driver.


That's a nice looking turret you got there Wonrz. :P

Now to the map quality and theme variety- I think this mainly has everything to do with each mapper's level of skill and taste, and it's not meant to have any one unifying theme to it.

I didn't said that it must have some "unifying theme", I just posted my thoughts about maps quality. I can't say that any of them are finished, some are just bad, some hasn't "finishing touch", so they architecture could be a way better, and some has a loads of bugs. I think, that big patch is what this mod needs.

The fog doesnt work with steam. Spirit of halflife was developed on WON halflife and there was never a fix to get it work with steam.
Same bug is in svencoop, it also has a fog entity but doesnt work in steam.

Played the Second Wind (use noclip to get through the "secret chest" part, I don't know how to get through the wall), the final tower(some kind of library?) part has a great view. Too bad when I finish each episode and step into the portal, the game gets crashed :(
The only one works so far is Coil. Does anyone have the solution?

Edit: Nevermind, I pass the "finish crash". IMO "Echo Transit" is the hardest episode, I died several times during the crane part or can't get the RPG to destroy APC in time :$

I had to noclip twice on Second Wind, once to get through the water gate to raise the second lever and again with the wall behind the bookcase. This can be forgiven almost considering how fucking gorgeous the episode looks (the cutscene at the beginning was really impressive).

So far, these are my thoughts on the mod:

Labcoats Required - Crap, just another boring HL episode, the level design is pretty dire to boot.

It's Safer Here - Again, crap. This had the potential to be great, mixing in the City 17 location with the Xen aliens and the like and instead it's filled with Half-Life textures, crappy edited grunt models and horrible texture rips from HL2 (that 'gate' texture made me want to vomit). You can't do City 17 on goldsource and have it look as good as it would in HL2, but with some work you can still get it to look really nice.

Coil - Excellent episode here, brilliant level design in both visuals and construction, loved it.

Cyan - This one is probably my favourite so far, great design and puzzle setup, I liked the instant battery recharge units and the use of the PS2 stations.

Echo Transit - This one was a breath of fresh air too, great design, the idea of having to protect the crane was well thought out and the new dialogue works really well. Only complaint is that the time you need to take out the APC and defuse those bombs is too short to actually be properly doable, I confess I had to cheat to beat this section.

Emcamped - This was ok, nothing that special, it was nice how they had the alien soldiers being controlled by the slaves.
