Title: Unable to launch Orange Box games.
Post by: Cookie man on October 29, 2008, 02:59:45 PM
The title says it, I can't launch any of the Orange Box games. When the preparing is done, nothing happens. I can't play HL2 mods too, I already checked Steam Support page but I didn't find any fixes.

I can only launch it with the hl2.exe found in my SteamApps/*e-mail*/Half-Life 2 folder.

Does anyone here know how to fix this problem? Thanks in advance.

Delete ClientRegistry.blob, and restart your Steam.

It always works.

Thanks Barnz, gonna try that now.  :)

EDIT: [OffTopic] Anyone here know where to find the stupid Family Rifle, I've searched the area around the marked location but didn't find crap, just Gordon Freeman's dead corpse...

EDIT2: Nope, it didn't work. Thanks anyways.

I didn't find any bandit corpses around the marked area, just found dead mercs, scientists, some bloodsuckers and 1 Stalker (Dunno how he got past the bloodsuckers..)

By the way, I'm at the right place right? (Screenie)

I've updated my chipsets and graphic drivers but Orange Box games still wont work. :(

I got an Intel(R) 946GZ Express Chipset, I guess it's the problem.

Ah, those pesky bastards! DAMN INTEL INTEGRATED!!

Well, I had to do alot of work to get my Intel Chipset to play OB games. You need to click on this link:

http://mysearch.intel.com/corporate/default.aspx?culture=en_US&q=Mobile+Intel%C2%AE+946+Express+Chipset+Family&category=all&adv=0&value=0&searchsubmit.x=0&searchsubmit.y=0

Find your driver. You may need to get a beta driver or a older one to get the OB games working.

There's an underground passage near there, a parking or something; You need to go down there and jump over some wrecked cars to find the rifle.

The best way too fix your computer is to take an iron stick, and trow it at your PC :P

Take a dead chicken and swing it thrice over your head clockwise.

Should that fail, open the case, pull each part out, and clean it with soap + water. That should fix it.

I've fixed the problem. If anyone's getting this problem just disable the windows DEP security thing, it blocks the .exe from launching.

My Computer > Right click > Properties > Advanced > Settings (Performance) > Data Execution Prevention.

Turn it off and everything should work fine.  ;D

Oh lawd, I can get a good one for £50, which is like $25 ;D  (Or at least I assume this is good http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=860645&Product=1GB+Gainward+9500GT+Bliss%2c+PCI-E+2.0(x16)%2c+800MHz+GDDR2%2c+GPU+550MHz%2c+32+Cores%2c++HDTV%2f+D-Sub%2f+DL+DVI )

Would there be much difference between that and my current 7900GS?

Sorry DiamonD I don't know how, I'm using an NVidia 9500GT. (I should have got an 8800GT lol, the number 9 kinda made me buy it and thought it's better than the 8800 ones, I got the 1 gig version though.)

When I checked 9500GT's stats at Nvidia.com, 8800GT is waaay better.

It's a little faster then the 7900GS, but not much. If you're low on cash, go ATi.

Bro, you got your conversions the wrong way round, you get more dollars to the pound, not more pounds to the dollar!
