Title: Best way to get a cheap, good computer
Post by: J-Man on November 04, 2008, 01:04:39 AM
Now, DD will remember this, but in HL2DM i was lagging so bad i couldnt even aim. But I'm fairly sure it wasn't because of my connection, it was because my computer sucks nut.

Now, if I cant run HL2DM on low settings, that means my computer sucks, right?

If you're in United States -->Newegg.com (http://www.newegg.com/)

If you're in Canada --> Newegg.ca (http://www.newegg.ca/) or Tiger Direct.ca (http://www.tigerdirect.ca/)

MY Current specs (Runs Source games at 60fps on max settings. at 1680x1050)

Geforce 8600GT 256mb DDR3 (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150247) - $100 (The one thing that's dragging my comp behind..)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103210) - $80
2GB Ram DDR2 - $50-80 (Depends on who you buy it from...)

etc...

I know a shitload of tricks to get your source game running better.

Right click your game, hit properties, set launch options  >>> copypasta this in the text box

-dxlevel 71 +mat_specular 0 +mat_bumpmaps 0 +mat_forcehardwaresync 0

Try using these coupled with all low settings in the game options menu. If this doesn't work, you'll need a new rig.

I am using two gigabytes of RAM and a 7300 GT card, I think, although my processor is really shitty.

And for some reason the sound in Bioshock stutters a lot. Sounds like listening to Merzbow.

The cheapest way would be to steal it.

But it's not fun getting caught stealing haha.
