just reinstalled the game.   same thing :(
have you tried turning off steam and then running the bat file? I remember there was a problem with accessing GCF files while steam was still running

If you guys are starting for scratch it's no surprise, programmers love doing shit from zero. I could give a hand with modeling if you have a texture artist that can do texture from scratch
From scratch to some degree we're using an engine but it's more of a graphics library than a fully fledged one, the engine in is Ogre.
Yeah we have a concept artist who has recently given texturing a try and is pretty damn good at it.

Usually don't do this but I'm pretty desperate at the moment.

I'm working on a independent game project that is in desperate need of someone who can model organics. In particular, people. I'm shit house at it so the project is really in need of someone that can model player models. It doesn't have to be the most detailed thing in the world but something that resembles a human being is fine as long as its fairly low poly (around 3000 tops)

Another position that's open is the need for an animator.

This project is no pay as we haven't really decided if we're selling it yet but at the very least it can be put on your resume or fill your portfolio.

To explain what the game is a bit, it's a multiplayer game set on a space station akin to The Ship or the recently released Bloody Good Time but is less about senseless murder and more about working on a space station while being constantly suspicious of your crew mates who may or may not be traitors. It's essentially a rehash of a crappy little game on the BYOND engine called Space Station 13, which was far from avery simple game with the massive amount of systems that were put into it ranging from a fully decked out atmospheric system(kill people by replacing the air with excess co2 or even set the entire station ablaze from excess oxygen etc) to bomb building. We plan on going with a similar scope.

Strangely enough we're swarmed with programmers but are in desperate need of talented artists so if you're interested in either working on the project in full or just to do a one off thing either PM me here or jump onto irc.synirc.net/#spaceogres but please only do so if you have actual proof of experience.

Minor Updates / Re: Bot Pruning.

What's the registry page like right now? It's been a while since I've been there, did it have any anti-bot features (like a captcha, though there are probably ways to circumvent that)?
captcha is very easy to beat now a days. It's pretty hard to stop bots

I noticed it but I honestly don't know what the occasion is supposed to be.
as one of the original instigators of it I can't even remember think we just shoved headcrabs on our avatars

Yeah yeah.

Well, the new CoD anyways.

The original CoD series (1+ 2 at least) were half decent.

Then Treyarch got their grubby paws on the series, "made" CoD3 and then IW did MW1 (which was good) then Treyarch did WaW (which I havent played) and then we got this load of shit called MW2 (which sucks) that makes most 12 year olds' have their first orgasm and normal and people that know something about the military facepalm so hard it almost breaks their nose.

The original Cod series stole from bad ww2 movies so I dont see much improvement there but they were generally better games, yeah.

its got ironsights lol

Seriously tho?

MW1 was teh shit. The campaign was believable and varied, there being at least a few missions for everyone.

I (pirated) MW2 to kill some time. The campaign got loltastic about the time Shepperd goes "lolbrits" and kills off half of TF141... tho the entire campaign is I'm a huge unfunny manchild, do not listen to me.y. I mean... Russians driving through a Maryland town and shooting up civie homes for teh I'm a huge unfunny manchild, do not listen to me.? Srs. The game portrays all Russians as TEH EBIL BADD GAIZ and America as TEH POOR GOOD GAIZ. (Srs)

Mostly I play MP for the same reason I play CSS - sometimes, I just want to kill people using a specific weapon. That, and I got it for free. >:P

I havent gotten BO, but from what I've heard, it's good. I'm not going to buy it, but I've heard it's fairly good... granted the guy I heard from is... not the best.. but oh well.
The story and script of COD games are action movies written through the eyes of a five year old where it's literally just an attempt to put as many explosions and bad ass moments on screen as humanely possible. As for MW2 its storyline was like a really bad tom clancy novel, one that would make him spin in his grave even though he's currently alive

Sweaty 12 year olds get too obsessed with CoD, and that's stopped me from even touching MW1, which I'm considering doing; MW2 not as much. Black Ops sounds frighteningly linear. I was talking to my brother (who always compare CoD to Half-Life; he thinks HL is dumb because you don't use iron sights.) ...every time I get something decent to criticize about it he shoves it off and starts raving about how the new game uses currency instead of levelling up. Eh.
because grinding is actually a fun gameplay mechanic and isn't something that's simply used by marketing to increase the longevity of the game because 14 year olds like shiny things

gameplay wise cod has nothing new that CS didn't have a decade ago. anybody who thinks it does is a fucking idiot and can't see past gimmicks. CS with a sprint button, a dedicated melee button and a bunch of stupid 'power up'-esque crap all in jam packed into a level and server size that's smaller than every other MP fps over the last two decades

im not touching this not even with a long stick. it took activision less than a year to shit this out so it just means its more of the same game they've been releasing over the past few years

i don't want to support assembly line development that activision seems to love, especially when its watered down shooters like this.

Why would you have to be ripped to use two handguns? Why would you carry two handguns to begin with? It's a challenge in itself to hit stationary targets in a proper stance in ideal conditions.

Also ideally, you'd want a sidearm and a rifle to use the same type of ammunition, and something common. A B&T MP5 series weapon, along with a Beretta 92FS or Glock 17 would be a good choice. You can't have large weapons encumbering you. Also the FN2000 is not all it's cracked up to be. That's the last weapon I would take with me to the end of the world.

I would just use what I already have, no need to complicate things with "oh, well I'd break into this gunstore and grab some bazookas and be on my way". Mossberg 590a1 + Glock 17. The shotgun is a multipurpose weapon due to the variety of ammunition I own for it, making it an exception to the large weapon rule. The Glock is more of a panic weapon if your primary is dry and there is something closing on you. I'd probably also keep the M8 bayonet on the Mossberg at all times, since a lot of the would-be enemies are hand-to-hand and close range.

Probably skip my plate carrier because it's largely unnecessary against enemies using energy weapons. Since the world has not exploded, I wouldn't be overly concerned with carrying tons of food and water--that can be acquired in a multitude of ways. I'd probably limit my loadout to 15 KG, and peripherals can go in the car.
hence my jerk off with your offhand comment, need to be ambidextrous to even have the slightest hope of using two guns effectively and even then it's more showing off than actually effective

Lol, yeah, only 15. By the time I'd hypothetically be carrying this, I'd be ripped and 25.

Sarge: Kinda, Kyler and I were talking about Zombieland and it spawned into this. :3
Gotta love the second amendment, amiright?
The thing that bugs me is all the taxes on this stuff. To actually be able to easily afford all this is a bit too much for my taste.

I've never seen the P99 before. Looks nice.

Ever fired a gun?
better start jerking with your left hand if you want any chance of using two guns at once(or right if you're one of those)

I think that Daza is right to a degree, there are a lot of games released that don't support modding, since games are mostly released multi-platform the PC versions end up being more ports from the console with no modding support. It's more of an indie craze these days, with UDK, unity and other freesource engines about, there isn't that much of an incentive for modding as there is for just creating your own game. There are still modding capabilities with newer engines, especially X-Ray and Cryengine 2 (3?), but the community is not thriving as much as it once did.

PS: Source editing is gay.

Problem is working on your own game entails prior skills. I don't know about you guys but when I learned how to model and animate I didn't learn it from reading a book or doing some sort of course I learned it by starting small by messing with HL models.

Modding is a craddle and it's becoming much harder to mod and much harder to find games that support modding. I don't hate sv_pure I just hate that devs are more willing to take a short cut with it by making sv_pure just part of their game rather than an option.

Also the need to 'make' an sdk is a crock of shit. They worked on the game during the development process( atleast I fuckign hope they did) they would have used tools to develop on their engine. Making an SDK involves mostly cutting down features they deem 'unnecessary' for modders and to make documentation.

You best be trollin'

Modding is far from dead.
Perhaps but the massive boon it got during the era of Half-Life and Counter-Strike is long gone hardly any games support mods and very few game companies support modders with the majority of them persecuting them either for messing with their 'vision', their love of lawyers and copyright laws or due to the 'pro gaming' scene having a massive collective whine when counter-strike modding was all the craze and dumb idiots claimed that people were getting an advantage over others which lead to increased security measures (sv_pure). Other devs decided to just get rid of modding entirely from their games so now you pretty much have to hack the bloody things to get anywhere with it.

It's so bloody apparent because it's nearly impossible now a days to find 3d artists yet less than a decade ago there was too many of the fuckers and no coders.
