Who says that it was? The "/b/ has landed" part was simply to make it sound better. Quite a lot of wannabes/newfags masquerade under the /b/ guise. Just because someone wears a V mask and runs around shouting "IT'S OVER 9,000!", does not make them Anonymous. It really depends on who you designate as /b/.

Or the degree to which people give a fuck.

You're such a downer.

Holy shit that's nice. I tried something similar a while ago actually, using textures from some HL:S pack.

Jeez I haven't posted in a while.

Harry's model and sucky bake. My textures. Hope ya'll like it.

Edit: Harry didn't fuck up the bake, I fucked up on not flipping the green channel of the normal map. Update pic with fix.

New skybox and grass, just need to make some trees and bushes and rocks to scatter around and I can start on the shanty town.

Trying my hand at mapping with Unity. Textures are my own except the skybox.

idk guys. I use GIMP even though I have CS3 installed.

One thing you absolutely have to do when you start texturing is work with layers right from the start. It just makes editing so much easier, you can imagine how much easier it would be to edit the lighting for example. Or if you wanna switch out metal bases half way through texturing (you can actually see I've done just that with my synthetic layer in the image below).

Here's how I organize my layers btw (you'll have to do some experimenting with what layer modes you use too, I use 'overlay' for my lighting but others use 'soft light' or others for example).

Gimp 2.6 is what I use personally. I prefer it over the older versions of photoshop but CS4 is hard to compete with.

Their new character artist is really relying on shaders to make the art pop, which is all good and fine in the Source engine but it would just look like washed out poo in the oldness of Goldsrc. Another problem is the environments, as in, Source can handle much more complex ones. You see, a long time ago there was a certain mod that tried to recreate HL2-style environments in Goldsrc and they found that all that geometry detail doesn't sit well with the old engine, and since BM is even more detailed then that it would be even harder. AFAIK scripted sequences would have to be redone as well. I guess it would be kind of neat but in the long run, impossible.

Gold Source RELEASES / Re: [Gordon Hands] MERRY CHRISTMAS '09!

I love the sketch-like style you've gone with. It has an amount of character to it that it wouldn't have if it was just downright realistically textured. Nicely done.

Thanks man, glad to hear that others prefer stylized over realistic.
