Tutorials / Windows XP Static Page File
« on: January 18, 2006, 01:37:26 AM »
Thought this might be helpfull for those people looking to tweak their system to the extreme :)

I mentioned it in another topic as a solution for users with small amounts of RAM who have lag issues.

It's not exactly Half Life related so i appologise for that :(

Improve Performance with a Static Page File

One way to improve the performance of your Windows XP machine without having to add or replace hardware is to create a static page file. By default, the page file grows as required to meet the virtual memory needs of your applications. It takes processor and disk write time to change the size of the page file. You can speed things up a bit by creating a page file that's always the same size. Here's how:

1. Click Start and then click Control Panel.

2. In the Control Panel, double click on the System icon.

3. In the System Properties dialog box, click on the Advanced tab.

4. In the Advanced tab, click on the Settings button in the Performance frame.

5. In the Performance Options dialog box, click the Advanced tab.

6. On the Advanced tab, click the Change button.

7. Click on the drive that has the page file on it. You can tell which drive has the page file because you'll see a Paging File Size (MB) range listed. Change the Initial Size and Maximum size to be the same number. That number should be between 1.5-2 times the amount of RAM in your computer. If you prefer, you can just change the Initial Size to be the same as the Maximum Size that is already listed. Click the Set button.

8. Click OK and click OK again. Click OK one more time! You may be asked to restart the computer for the changes to take effect. If so, click Yes and restart the computer.

If you want to squeeze even more performance out of the page file, remove the page file from the drive with the operating system files on it, and make a new one on a different drive.

Source RELEASES / Updated Raging Bull for HL2
« on: November 12, 2005, 02:18:08 AM »
EDIT:- Updated to include normal maps and more refined textures.

Personally I wasn't happy with the look of the Raging Bull Magnum done by Wannabe.

Some of the edges on the model looked a little too "jaggered" so i decided to smooth them out with Photoshop.

Any suggestions would be appreciated :)

Bug reports / Flynias Guide To Removing Unecessary/Unwanted Models
« on: October 28, 2005, 05:37:45 AM »
Righteo Guys

After much thought on the issue i have decided to patch together a little post on how to remove those models you don't want to use in HLS-HD.

The first step is to browse to the following directory.

C:\<Path To Steam>\Steam\SteamApps\<username>\half-life source\hl1\

In this folder their will be several different subfolders... The ones we are looking for are named /models and /materials

Lets start with the /models one first... in this folder their will be a lot of individual files... 5-6 different ones for each model that we have added.

They are:

(may not always exist)

To remove the model just delete these 5-6 files :)

After you have done that you will need to delete the materials for it...

So open up that /materials directory... within that directory their should be dozens of different folders.

We are looking for the folder name that relates to the model we have just deleted...

In this case look for the folder named hgrunt and remove that.

Having done that it should then remove the grunt model from the game :)

All done :)

Wasn't that simple ;)

Requests / Nihilath Candidates
« on: October 06, 2005, 08:29:36 AM »
EDIT:- Poll created :)

EDIT2:- Topic renamed pending release of Tundra Cools model as a "Source Release"

EDIT3:-  Tundra Cools Model http://www.hl-improvement.com/forums/index.php?topic=2871.0

I had posted these in under the "Beta" topic but it wasnt really home for it:

Here he is... the biggest bad boy in HL Source with normal maps :)

Personally i think the one by tundra cool is a lot more developed as you can see by the forehead and arms. Maybe its just the normal maps... but to me he looks more "real" and "physical". It could be just me though LOL

PS - Appologies for the image sizes as its hard to get decent images of him at small size.

Thoughts people?
