The ironsight crosshairs I've been working on in the "too much time" thread are finished! Now I recommend that these be used in resolutions 1024x768 and higher due to the size and style of some of these crosshairs. The ones that require less accurate weapons, such as the Gluon gon, may block your vision some, especially in lower resolutions.

These probably aren't best for serious deathmatching or anything, but they're fun to play with and it's certainly a fresh change of pace! Give them a try please, and let me know what you think!

EDIT: Added streamlined versions of the gluon gun and the hive hand, since those two were the largest crosshairs in the pack. Preview picture and download link of the small versions below!
UPDATE March 28: Oops, I messed up on the text file for the crossbow. The zoom didn't work right, but now it should so just redownload the pack. Also going to make an even more streamlined gluon crosshair because it's still fairly clunky, and going to update the larger hivehand with a smoother background like I did with the smaller one. Scratch that, I'm going to try to make a better 2nd version of this stuff, and release it in this thread. Don't know how long it'll take. Leave suggestions on how I can make it better without losing the ironsight-ness and cool stuff. I've already posted my ideas on how I can improve them.

-Increase the "screen-size" of the Gauss crosshair, but keep the junk around it minimal like it has been. This may involve just recreating the whole thing.

-Make it so the Gluon crosshair is only the screen, so it's not nearly as clunky and more streamlined.

-Remove the grid from the RPG crosshair so it's easier to see targets.

-Remove unnecessary text from the reticle area of crosshairs. (I.e. lilttle detail stuff like SYS OK, etc)

-Add at least some basic shading to create some depth to the crosshairs.

Textures / 2D Art & Audio / HL2 Style Crosshairs
« on: March 24, 2008, 12:24:33 AM »
I've created a very close imitation of the HL2 crosshair for use in HL1. Also, like in HL2, it shows up for every single weapon. Don't want it to show up for a certain weapon like the crowbar? Delete that weapon's text file in the sprite folder.

Heh... GL ruM... GLrum. Glrum. I made a new word! Hah, .. *ahem*

Anyways! This is a remake of my latest crosshair release, with some visual flare added by rUM.

Leave comments please!

EDIT: Redid the zoomed crosshairs cause the originals were lazily done. Included preview picture example of the crossbow zoom (not ingame pic, quick photoshop color to show what it's like). If for some reason you liked the old zoom, they're still in the rar file in a different folder.

EDIT: Tweaked again, now I'm happy.

I should have done this a while ago. I did what I could to imitate the Vortigaunt from Half-Life 2 (Not the episode 2 vortigaunt, I can't mimic that voice at all), and made a voice pack to replace the alien slave sounds in Half-Life 1. This contains the following:

Custom sentences.txt to make it all work

6 alert sounds that make threats ("To the void with you!" "Give over your essence!")

11 idle words purely in the language of "Vortugese", the language of the vortigaunts in the Half-Life 2 series.

Pain and Death sounds.

Try them and let me know what you think, please.

Textures / 2D Art & Audio / [Crosshairs] New crosshairs for Half-Life
« on: March 06, 2008, 03:05:46 AM »
Made up these crosshairs today, so I thought I'd release them. Hope you'll like them. Enjoy!

EDIT: By the way, yes, these crosshairs have transparency.

EDIT EDIT: I really messed up, this is a finished project, not a request. Could the mods please move this?

Texture/2D Art & Audio Requests / Assistance on a crosshairs project
« on: March 03, 2008, 01:54:11 PM »
I'm working on making psuedo-iron sights for Counter-Life 6 and Half-Life (basically, I'm drawing the portion of the iron sights as a crosshair to aim through), and I could use some help with my project. Google searches only get me so many meh images... either that, or I'm not searching properly.

Could someone with realistic airsoft replicas, or access to real guns, OR able to get photos of different GOOD close up views of the sights of guns be able to provide me with images? I need them for the following classes of firearms:

-Shotguns (Especially shotguns)
-Assault Rifles of varying sorts
-Sniper Scopes not needed, found a reference, but I could probably use references as to how they look without being "zoomed in"

If you guys could help me, I'd appreciate it

EDIT: A bit of info as to how you'd aim properly with some of the sights would also help the realism, since I've never really handled a firearm in real life, and my project so far is based off of what I've seen from other iron sight game videos.

Is it possible to mirror a model if it won't mirror in Gflip? If so, can somebody do this for me? How difficult a task is it if it's possible?

If it helps sweeten the deal, I can offer a little bit of voice acting work, or 2d sprite work in return... (Say maybe a new weapon hud select icon or something?)

Got bored last night, so I started work on this and finished it up today. Thanks to google, I was able to find a surgery type pic of some nasty gore by typing in "intestinal mass". I applied this as textures to Fat Al's agib model, and made it the new hgibs.mdl. I then applied it to fleshgibs.mdl, and made a yellow colored version of the "hgibs" for the agibs.mdl

Try it out if you like slippery, bloody, icky gore. Judge for yourself if you want this or not:

Original models: Valve
Original model alterations: Fat Al
Gross real gore picture: Google

Model/Skin Requests / OP4 Redux "HEV models" pack (Request filled)
« on: November 25, 2007, 04:27:16 AM »
Apparently I missed out on the mother lode a while ago... A bunch of view weapons from the Opposing Force Redux mode were converted to Half-Life and placed up on their site a long time ago. Trying to get them now gets me missing page errors. Anyone have those little deals? If not all of them, then at least the shotgun and hand grenade in particular? (Trip mine and satchel explosives would be nice little extras...)

Ah, anyway, if you have them, and are having trouble uploading or whatever, you can contact me at lordgaming @ gmail.com We can work out a file transfer, or just multiple e-mail attachments or whatever.

Appreciate it muchly, guys!

Nevermind, finally stumbled across the pack here:

For future reference in case anyone else needs to download it. The filefront link doesn't work so you'll have to become a moddb member and download it then.

Texture/2D Art & Audio Requests / Add ejecting brass to glock?
« on: September 24, 2007, 02:05:45 AM »

Can somebody alter this model so it ejects brass? Please? I'll... I'll be your friend. I'll give you a cookie. I'll... I'll resist from releasing the hounds...

EDIT: Aw crap, put my post in the wrong section. This should've gone in the requests for models, sorry.

Conversation / Hello HIT, I've been away. What's up?
« on: August 16, 2007, 04:03:45 AM »
I just felt like saying hello to the community that I haven't participated with in ages... Maybe someday I'll make another old half-life release of another rehashed decals.wad file or something. (Maybe somebody can help me with this, I'm stuck on part of it..)

So what has the community been up to, that's what I've been wondering. Anything interesting? I'm guessing the actual HL Improvement mod is still under construction... will still be looking forward to that whenever it gets done. Is the IRC channel still around? I'd like to lurk in the chat and occasionally release some headcrabs...

I'm hoping my post here won't be considered spam. I guess I am trying to start up a conversation of sorts. I feel like I kind of want to get back into the community a little bit, but am unsure of how exactly. I think I'll share a little secret that I never really shared with people here. I have problems with anxiety and depression... it's what's always delayed or put my projects on hiatus, or kept me away from things really. Kinda sucks, but I'm learning to deal with it I suppose.

Anyway... Uhm. I'm rambling. So I'm going to stop typing now.

Other Threads / Discovered some minor HL sound glitches, and fixes.
« on: March 02, 2007, 06:53:25 AM »
In a couple of areas of the original Half-Life, I've noticed the game suddenly losing the ability to play certain sounds. This happens in the office area where a zombie breaks down a door, and where two scientists are dragged into a vent. Also, before you go to Xen, where you stock up on loads of weapons and ammo, and wait for the portal to open, the sound went mute entirely, and sometimes the game would crash for me.

I've figured out why the hell this happens... it's bothered me for well over a year. It's because of custom sounds being installed.

The glitch shows up in both WON and Steam versions of the game. It's easily fixed though. Just make sure the "buttons" and "debris" folders are removed from your set of custom sounds. For some reason Half-Life gets finicky if it can't use the default sounds there.

This may also be the cause of some freeze ups in Opposing Force I've been having now that I think about it. (The Redux mod had custom button and debris sounds as well)

Anyways, I figured I should share this bit of information in case anybody else ever had the same problem. I figure it's one of those lesser noticed things since sound replacement isn't as big as replacing models for Half-Life.

Other Threads / Steam purchase, I'd like some opinions...
« on: February 02, 2007, 09:59:12 PM »
Well, I figure it's about time I got a new little game thing to occupy me a little more. However, I'm not sure which to purchase... I'm stuck between GMod 10, or the Sin Package.

To those who have GMod 10, is it more stable? Less buggy? A bit easier to do fun and silly things?

To those who've played the Sin games... I've heard the Emergence episode was just okay, not anything *too* great. Could still occupy my time a little perhaps. How was the original game though? Is that any fun?

Textures / 2D Art & Audio / [Hgrunt] Sound Pack FINISHED!
« on: February 02, 2007, 04:55:08 AM »
Finally finished the darned thing! It's broken up into two .rar files, so make sure you download and install both of them to get it to work right.

Let me know what ya think.

Model/Skin Requests / [HL2] Knife to replace crowbar?
« on: January 29, 2007, 11:42:47 PM »
Anybody have a good knife view model to replace the crowbar with in HL2? I'd really appreciate one if it isn't too much trouble.
