Source RELEASES / [Pack] HL:S:HD 2.0 beta UNOFFICIAL Release
« on: September 10, 2009, 10:31:47 PM »

Hello all, some of you may remember me as the HL:S:HD Project Leader (2005-07).  Since leaving the Project I have kept tabs on it and occasionally dropped in to say "hey" to the Team.  Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons, work seems to have come to a halt.  I had brought up the idea of releasing what we have done on a couple of occasions with varied interest from the team, but a decision was never made.  These last several months I've seen no activity at all.  This is disappointing for me having been a part of it for a couple years... and I'm sure it is equally as disappointing to the rest of the Team.  I have absolutely nothing against the Team, they have done a lot of work and I hope they will harbor me no ill will for what I am about to do...

I have rounded up all the HL:S:HD 2.0 beta files from my hard drives that I could and I've uploaded it for you to download.  The pack includes several additional models, updated textures, some GUI fixes and a few sound files.  Many of you have waited a very long time and I feel it is the least we could do, if this project is going to die, to give you what we have.  This is not a completed pack, there are still a few remaining bugs (minor, bug seemingly unfixable) and a couple missing models that were causing problems (noted in readme) but beyond that, there is a lot more content then version 1.0 had.  Call this 1.5, lol.  Whatever it is, I am offering it of my own accord, this is not an HL:S:HD "Official" release.  The Team has had no input into this decision.

It is released AS IS and is NOT SUPPORTED in any way.  Also, this is NOT the HD/SD Pack posted here (that was version 1.0).

The Readme was pulled from a very old build, so I'm not sure how up to date the information in it is.  I updated as much as I could remember, but if you notice something I missed please let me know so I can fix it.  A lot of work by a lot of people has gone into this and I want to make sure everyone is credited accurately.  Without further ado here is the link.  You may redistribute as you wish so long as proper credit is given to the HL:S:HD Team here at HIT.

http://www.filefront.com/14506579/HLSHD%20BETA.02.rar

The pack includes:

  • A.I. and Romka's updated model meshes and textures
  • Numerous community updated model meshes and textures
  • d'keesto's improved map textures pack
  • Red Slug's HD container models and textures (item you find when you break open a crate)
  • A few other items I'm going completely blank on at the moment (but will edit in when I remember them)

If you manage to fix one of the bugs, please post it here so everyone else can benefit.  Thank you and God bless.

HL:S:HD / A Very UN-Official Release
« on: September 10, 2009, 10:10:25 PM »

Since leaving the Project in late 2007 I have kept tabs on it and occasionally dropped in to say "hey" to the Team.  Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons, work on the pack gradually seems to have come to a halt.  Team member's lives just moved in other directions.  So, I had brought up the idea of releasing what we have done on a couple of occasions with varied interest from the team.  We always noted we'd "discuss it", but then that never seemed to happen.  These last several months I've seen no activity at all.  This is disappointing for me having been a part of it for a couple years; I'm sure it is equally as disappointing to the rest of the Team.  I have absolutely nothing against the Team, they have done a lot of work and I hope they will harbor me no ill will for what I am about to do...

Conversation / A little showing off...
« on: December 31, 2008, 07:00:28 AM »
Well last I posted I had just begun to build a new system.  A few things have changed since then, so I thought I'd show off... I mean SHARE!   ...yeah.

Do you remember this?

Yeah... that was back in the day.  The first time I "showed off" here.  Now it looks like this:

Both monitors are Gateway's 30" XHD3000.  The towers are both Cooler Master's Cosmos Sport.

I've affectionately named them "Red" and "Blue".

Red is a 3.2Ghtz E8600 C2D, 4 Gigs of DDR2, two 1-Tb drives (one for 64bit XP, one 64bit Vista), 9800GTX (awaiting dual GTX285's in January), X-Fi and Z-5500's.
Blue is an older socket 939 rig with an FX-60, 2 Gigs of DDR, and four WD 250's

I hope to purchase the third 30" in Febuary, take the hutch of my desk to make room, and then add a receiver (Marantz SR-5003) and 5.1 bookshelves (Acculine A Series) to replace the Logitechs.  I'll be sure to take more pictures then, but I was too excited to keep it to myself any longer.   ;D

Hope y'all don't hate me too much.  I have a new job that is working me so much over-time about all I get to do is sleep and spend money.  Maybe some time I'll get time to enjoy it all.  ::)

Conversation / New System
« on: August 13, 2008, 01:51:40 AM »
Howdy Rowdys!  How is everyone, it's been awhile since my last visit.  I popped into the HL:S:HD section to say "hey" to the boys and thought I'd stop up here to.

I've been spending money... lots of it, lol.  I'm planning on buying a house next summer, which will put me right back to being broke, so I gave myself 6 months to build myself some entertainment.  ;D

Here is the result:

The monitors are a 30" for the main and a 24" for on the left; both Gateways.  The case is Cooler Master's Cosmos S (love it) and the internals are in my sig.  The 9800GTX will soon be getting replaced by a GT290 (end of August) or a 4870X2... whichever performs better and uses less juice.

Here are some shots during build.  The Tuniq 120 is a massive CPU cooler, barely fits even in this case, but it does its job beautifully!  Having to push the 2560x1600 native resolution of my 30" may require an SLI setup for games like Crysis, so I went with an nvidia chipset.  So far I'm happy with it, although the new 4870X2 is making me second guess myself, lol.

Anyway, outside of the graphics card updates I only have the optical drives to go.  I should have a couple SATA drives by next week, along with an LCD fan controller.  Then I'll move around the LED fans for the lighting I like best and call it done.  Let me know what you think, I'm still open to constructive feedback.

Conversation / New Toy
« on: May 02, 2008, 06:10:05 AM »
My 8 year old 21" CRT was getting a bit dark and fuzzy.  My new job has allowed me to save a lot more $$$ then I'm used to so I decided it was time to upgrade.  ;D

I bought a Gateway XHD3000, one of the very few monitors to have a video processor in it borrowed from HDTV's.  It allows me to run whatever resolution I want, though it still looks best at its 2560x1600 native res.  It has numerous inputs so I can plug my HD DVD player into it, a 360 if I so choose and about four other things.  It upconverts them all to 1600p.  I love it.  Add to that the transparent menus, picture in picture, touch sensative controls and a remote and I'm full up with bling, its time to par-tay.

It dwarfs my old monitor, though this picture barely does it justice.  Sorry for the crappy pics, I didn't have much time before needing to get to work.  I'll post some better stuff this weekend.

Until I finsih building my new computer (the next project) I've only tried a couple older games.  I will see how Vegas 2 runs at native res tomorrow.  Still, BF2 never looked so good.  ;D

--

This is just phase 1, there is much more to come.  I will post more as I go, but I was so excited I had to share.  ::)

HL:S:HD / Knock Knock
« on: April 06, 2008, 02:48:27 AM »
What's up all?  Been a while, anything new?

--

I'm still lurking in the shadows from time to time, hopeful we'll get to see a finished project some day.  This project rawks, I still get excited about it!

Anyway, I figured I'd drop in and say "Howdy Rowdy's"... and maybe give you a little update on what's been going on with me.  I recently started a new job in a manufacturing plant.  The pay is much better then what I've had in a long time, so I'm rejoicing over bills paid on time and the prospect of new toys.  ;D  I've already begun building a new system based on a 3.0Ghz Core 2 Duo (E8400), 6 Gigs DDR2, 3 150G Raptors in RAID 5, Vista 64bit and a 30" Monitor.  I'm waiting on a video card until the new 9900's come out in July.  I'll have a triple monitor display (30" flanked by two 20.1's), so I'm excited!

My oldest Daughter is Graduating this year and heading off to College, she's been living with me for the last several months so I'm going to miss her.  I still game regularly.  Played a ton of BF2, still do on occasion.  Loved HL2:Ep2, looking forward to the last in the trilogy!  Portal is a riot to, sounds like its sequel is in development.  I haven't really been involved with any new mods, but I do spend a lot of time moderating/adminning my clan's servers and forums.  It is part ministry and part fellowship, I love it.

I still check a host of HL related sites regularly.  HL will always be my first gaming love.  ::)  This project and others (BM:S) are some that I follow routinely.  I guess that's why I'm here doing some catch up, lol.  How has every one been?  I've yakked enough about myself, tell me what's going on around here?

I belong to a group called the "World Wide Ambassadors" who have recently started a new dedicated HL2DM server.  We are still tweaking the edges on it, but for those of you who play please come check it out and give me your feedback.  Our aim is to provide a cleaner environment with no offensive language, porn sprays, disrespectful names and without a lot of the typical immaturity that plagues online games.

Server Name: Christian HL2DM by (WWA)

I'm an admin, so let me know if you have a request.  Thanks.

EDIT: Different IP.

Conversation / What has happened to our forums?
« on: December 13, 2006, 05:57:10 PM »
This was always my favorite place to be in the HL world.  I have logged a lot of hours here, but I'm a little dissapointed lately.

I don't mean to sound disrespectful or prudish, I have a lot of respect for this community, but what has happened to our forums?  We used to have language filters, but no more.  We used to address issues firmly but with some general profesionalism, but now some just blast people and generally abuse their powers.  This used to be a place that was friendly to newcomers, but I can't say I see that now.  We have both moderators (not all) and regulars (again, not all) that don't seem to care what kind of image we give off or what kind of atmosphere exists here.  I know there are people here who still care about this kind of thing, but have we gotten so complacent that we just don't give a rip anymore?  Find me nit-picky, but I cannot recommend these forums at the moment... and that is truely a shame.  There are a lot of good people here and some tremendous work.  This site has so much to offer, but why do I have to wade through so much garbage to get to it?

It really doesn't take that much effort in my opinion.  Could we take a little more pride in what has been established here?  Please.

A concerned member.

Conversation / Valve to lead the way in multicore gaming
« on: November 04, 2006, 11:43:32 PM »
I had read in an article some time back that Valve would be coding for multi-core CPU's for HL2:Ep2, but I had no idea what all they had in mind.  As of the beginning of November Valve had it's annual "Hardware Day" and displayed several tidbits elaborating on their plans.  The following sites have articles pertaining to the show.  The first article is more user-friendly, where the second article gets into more of the technical specifics.  The third article I recently added aims more towards the game developer and modder.  Though it covers much of the same ground, there is some good information for the modder as far as the tools Valve is incorporating.  Also, the first article has downloadable movies, where as the second article has YouTube movies.  Anyway, awesome news for those of us with dual core or greateer machines.  Read on:

DriverHeaven coverage:

Bit-Tech coverage:

Extreme Tech

Valve is claiming that multi-core processors, if coded for correctly, will revolutionize gaming to the degree graphics accelerators did.  Quite a claim.  What's more interesting is how they back it up with movies and demos of their proof.  It will make a believer out of you.

Enjoy.

EDIT: added third article and spelling corrections.

For now they're only on Fileplanet (bleh), but it's still Ep2 pr0n so suck it up.  ;D

Trailer 1

Trailer 2

Trailer 3

Some nice stuff.  New partical effects, soft shadows, new locations and vehicle warfare.  Enjoy!

EDIT: They're basically the 720p (hi-def) versions of the shaky-cam movies earlier released.

Conversation / Forum irregularities lately?
« on: August 08, 2006, 05:13:17 AM »
This is not a complaint, I'm just wondering if I'm the only one experiencing it...

The forums seems to be unusually slow the last few days with a lot of sporatically broken links (that I know have correct paths), plus randomly misplaced buttons and avatars.  A couple people in the HL:S:HD area seem to have noticed it, has anyone else noticed it?

If it's not just me and there is something going on behind the scenes can we get some info (if there is any)... maybe we can help?

Textures / 2D Art & Audio / HL:S Flipsigns >>>UPDATED<<<
« on: August 07, 2006, 02:22:47 AM »
After replacing almost every model in HL:S for the HL:S:HD project, I was a little put out by the flip signs at the beginning of the game.  They looked a bit out of place.

Consequently I started redoing them.  Keep in mind, this is for Source engine, not the orginal HL.  It will not allow textures any larger then what is already being used.  You will also notice the ingame shots have specialized text for our Pack.  Once it is released I will release the generics if people want them.

Anyway, the following is what I've accomplished so far (original / remake / ingame):

I could not duplicate the location of the original.  I tried to spawn a loader where I needed it, but could not get it to work.  I like the color varity in this one better anyway.

The only remaining sign is the vallley sign, which is not from them game.  It is a render.  I've done a seach online for something comparable but haven't come up with anything yet.  Apart from a miracle, I will most likely not mess with it.

--

All constructive comments are welcome.

EDIT: Added Apache and Tram signs, plus improved Welder, Dam and Loader signs (with corrected spelling ;D ).  I apologise for the resolutions, I forgot I had been playing at my highest res for pic quality.  On the ingame shots you'll notice misalignments side to side on the Tram and Team signs; I'm working on that.  You'll also notice in the Dam and Tram signs have slight seems in the middle of them; the blocks they rotate on clip into one another ever so slightly.  Unfortunately the originals were the same way and I don't think it can be helped.

Submissions / Frostbite's "HUD Damage Sprites"
« on: July 01, 2006, 02:24:07 AM »
I had not had a chance to browse the release forums in a while, so the other day I took a stroll.  I came across a few nice candidates, but figured I'd start with this one:

Frostbite's HUD Damage sprites.  They should be easy to convert and are certainly an improvement over the originals.  Frostbite has already granted us permission.

Thoughts?

Submissions / Before you submit, get legit
« on: June 29, 2006, 03:51:19 AM »
Howdy all.  I just wanted to take a minute to welcome you to our new board "Submissions"; maybe even explain it's purpose and go over a few quick guidelines while I'm at it.

Our "Requests" board has served us nicely when it comes to handling your requests and suggestions.  However it wasn't the best place to organize the different submissions people were offering for use in the HL:S:HD Pack.  Consequently I decided it would be nice to give those things a place of their own.  With the help of our awesome yet impeccably helpful Administrator Matt, we now have a place to do so (thanks Matt!).

This board is designed to give you a place to submit your models, textures, sounds, map entities and whatever else you think might be able to HD-ify HL:S.   ;D  When doing so, please follow the following guidelnes:

- Include credits for all who have contributed.

- If you are not the author, then get the author's permission BEFORE submitting it!

- Include screen shot(s) where applicable.

- Nothing Illegal. (Beta material, any other copyrighted game material, etc.)

- Understand the submission will be reviewed and may or may not get used in a HL:S:HD release. (we will communicate our intent either way)

- DO NOT insult, slam or otherwise run down another poster's submission.  If you have constructive criticism, dole it out in the WIP forum where it is appropriate.  This forum is for submission and vote only, not for community review.

We appreciate your cooperation and patronage once again.  Now round up your submissions and happy posting!
