Models / Skins / 1911 omg
« on: March 20, 2007, 01:33:50 AM »
Oh hay guys, this is my... Well, I can't remember how many things I've tried to model in the past, but I am very, very new to modelling.

Basically, it's a 1911. Some of it is based on a reference (I had one in the side view viewport) and some from imagination (That's just how I like to work) so it's not going to be 100% accurate unfortunately.

It weighs in at 2231 triangles, which I don't think is too shabby in my opinion. At the moment, as you can see, it's flat-shaded. I uh... I can't smooth properly yet, so...

I think a lot of bits have been badly done, and will upload the .max if anyone wants a closer look (Made in Max 7)

Conversation / Translation needed
« on: January 28, 2007, 08:31:50 PM »
Y halo thar. Rayne and I are in need of a piece of text to be translated into perfect German. This must be translated only by someone who speaks German as their native language, as we need it to be perfectly translated.

The piece of text is

"Choosers of the slain"

Slain = erschlagenen if anyone isn't sure about what it means.

Thanks in advance.

Conversation / Half-Life Creations
« on: January 28, 2007, 05:43:34 PM »
Half-Life Creations has now officially gone live! HLC is the product of a vision both myself and Editor321 shared: A site where developers for anything and everything Half-Life orientated can come together, get hosted, get exposure and share ideas and plans. Here's an extract from the site:

In short, we're all about the development side of the Half-Life community; a haven for developers and players alike to converge in one place and share their thoughts, ideas and views with the rest of the world. Although we are designer orientated, the regular old players of Half-Life are, of course, totally welcome too!

So why not check out the site and support us?

Happy modding!

My second ever skin. Still don't know about lighting and stuff, so that's probably off. My utmost thanks go to Millenia for his skinning VTM, his patience with me and his protips. <3

I need to to down the rust on the barrel to keep it consistent with the receiver and remove the rust on the grip, as was pointed out on CDG. Any construcive criticism/comments/suggestions?

General Chat / Condition Zero content
« on: December 22, 2006, 02:49:33 PM »
This is for sensible discussion about Condition Zero content and its possible legality. Essentially, what I want to discuss is this:

Has Condition Zero content now become legal for usage in Third Party mods?

A while back, I emailed Gabe Newell about the matter and got a quick response from someone on Gabe's behalf explaining that due to the fact that CZ and CZ DS are not part of Valve's Back Catalog, they have no say about whether we can use the content or not, which therefore makes it illegal to take and use in Third Party Mods. However, as many of you have noticed, Poke646: Vendetta used CZ content, and in the credits, it said that they were obtained from "Valve's Back Catalog", seeing as the Poke646 team are professionals at what they do and would very unlikely to use illegal content.

So I quickly did some Googling and it turns out that both Condition Zero and Condition Zero: Deleted Scenes are now part of Valve's Back Catalog. I got right on the case and emailed Gabe Newell again last night about the matter, currently awaiting a response.

Fingers crossed that it will become legal, but what do you guys think about the matter?

PS: This doesn't mean that you guys can run around posting converted CZ content, by the way.

Resident Evil: Cold Blood / New media and update
« on: December 18, 2006, 01:56:44 PM »
Hi guys. To make up for the down-time, here are some new images:

Also, a bit of news I was going to keep secret until Beta 2 was released, but I'll tell you now.

Beta 2 is going to be the final part of the multiplayer version of RE:CB. There will be a version 3 coming out, which will be a singleplayer story in Cold Blood, centred around one of the survivors. It will be more story-driven and feature cut-scenes and dialogue. Stay tuned.

Resident Evil: Cold Blood / Main site

Just a quick heads-up, guys. The main site (www.xenoverse.net/coldblood) is down at the moment, as Tim, the guy who runs the main site, forgot to pay his bills. Bear with us.

Resident Evil: Cold Blood / About RE:CB
« on: October 28, 2006, 06:20:17 AM »
Hey guys. I think it's about time I let you know what's happening with RE:CB. It's not dead, and it will not be. We're still working on it, and progress is very good. However, the team hasn't been kept together, and I've been neglected the beta testers. This is my fault, and I take responsibility. I don't keep the team informed about development and generally haven't been very good at leading lately. This is partly due to me working on other projects, such as Ragnarok Arena. I'm now focused, and back on track.

Pass this message around to anyone you know who cares about RE:CB. Beta 2 is going to be coming soon, and it's going to be a huge improvement over Beta 1.

Right now, I'm trying to gather the team together and get this all structured and focused. You'll be seeing lots of media updates from now on. Every friday after College, a new set of screenshots and the like will be released to show off development and to keep you guys interested. RE:CB is evolving, and for the better. I'm going to be working my arse off to add cool new things, and improve on the bad, as will the rest of the team. We want you to know that RE:CB is still active, and will be until Beta 2 is released.

We could do with a bit of support, so if you've got the spare time, invite some friends along to the forum, post some more and get involved. On that note, we need some experienced NPC modelers and skinners. Talk to me on MSN, email me, post on the forums or contact me in any other way if you're elligible. My MSN and email address is youareyag@hotmail.com.

Thanks for your time, guys.

Rules and Announcements / Spelling tutorial. Again.
« on: August 10, 2006, 03:27:52 PM »
Right, under the request of Lurid, I'm writing another spelling tutorial for you people to ignore. First off, we shall start off with the most common spelling errors:

Your - This is not used as a shortened version of "you are". When you use the word "your", you are talking about something that whoever you are talking to owns. For example, you would say:

Your house
Your hat
Your ice cream
You're house, you're hat, you're ice cream is not correct. That would mean "You are house, you are hat, you are ice cream"
You're - This is short for "you are". The apostrophe (the little ' ) shows that a letter has been removed. In this case, the letter that has been removed is "a" to make a shorter version of it. I made a little .gif to explain.

Some examples of how to use "you're":

You're tall
You're cold
You're really annoying
Too - Usually used the same way that "also" is used, or to indicate that there is too much/too little etc. of a certain thing. To explain things better, take a look at these examples:

I'm hungry too (See how you could also say "I'm hungry also"?)
I'm too tired
There are too many people
To - If you are unsure how to use this one, then use it whenever you're not saying any types of the above examples. If you need help with this one (Usually people get this one right, but a few people make the odd mistake) then look at these examples:

I'm going to bed
To be or not to be?

Another thing that is disliked on this forum is AOLian language. For example, replying to a post with "lol" is deemed unacceptable. Leet speak is also a big no-no, so don't go around replacing letters with numbers and the like. Also, this is a forum. It is not MSN. This sort of thing:

lol r u going 2 do teh model 4 me plz? kk thx

Makes Lurid very angry and I assume the other staff too. Not to mention the normal members who actually make an effort to not sound like a complete retard in their posts. It isn't a race, you can take all the time you want to spell words correctly. If you're unsure, run it through Microsoft Word or a similar spell checker.

Some examples of unacceptable faggotry:

Cuz instead of "because"
Ur instead of "your or you're"
U instead of "you"
m8 instead of "mate". M8 sounds like a type of car, so get out.
Gtfo instead of "get the fuck out"
Omg instead of "oh my god"
Stfu instead of "shut the fuck up"

USE PUNCTUATION. Yes, I am looking at you, Gtaiiilc. I've seen a lot of people typing their posts like this without any commas or fullstops or any other punctuation to indicate a pause in their sentence so it sounds like a long breathless piece of shit and its really and it really annoys me and a lot of other people so don't do it it's really annoying okay so don't fucking do it.

That is what that sentence would sound like in real life if you were reading it aloud, or as close as possible.

Think about how you would say the sentence in real life. Where you would normally pause if you were actually speaking it, add a comma. If it's the end of a sentence, add a fullstop/period. If you ever write a long sentence without punctuation again, I will hunt you down and pull your liver out through your mouth.

Make sure you always start a sentence with a capital letter. The first letter after a fullstop/period should be a capital letter. People's names need to start with capital letters too.

Apostrophes (these things ' ) are used incorrectly by almost everyone. Use an apostrophe to indicate a missing letter in a word or phrase (remember the you are/you're example?) or to show that someone or something owns something. Some good examples would be:

Bob's house
I'm tired
The cat's claws.

That's not too hard to grasp, is it?
They're - See "you are". This is a shortening (contraction) of "they are". Some examples:

They're tall
They're scary
They're fucking stupid
Their - Referring to something that "they" own. Some examples:

Their house
Their hat
Their ice cream

Not to be confused with "there" or "they're"
There - Think of this as "here"'s cousin. It is referring to "that place". Some examples:

There is a bird
Look, over there!
I see what you did there

Again, I'll reiterate. The odd leet speak here and there as a joke is fine according to Lurid, but do not use it seriously or excessively.

Please, follow these basic rules. If not for the sake of making yourself look more intelligent, then for mine and Lurid's sanity

Do I need to add anything to this?

Resident Evil: Cold Blood / I'm...not leaving
« on: July 19, 2006, 08:01:43 PM »
Well, what a horrible day this has been. I'll fill you in:

Ackart and I were at each other's throats and generally having a heated argument. He took my admin rights off of the Xenoverse forum , set my post count to -464 (For some reason) and then made a post in my leaving thread saying how I was a liar, I didn't care about the mod etc. I blocked him on MSN after he resorted to name calling, and then unblocked him after I cooled down a bit to let him have his say and discuss it like adults and, hopefully, come to some resolve. I invited the team into the conversation, so we could all discuss it. We eventually came to a compromise:

I come back to the mod, he leaves. I eventually got my powers on the forum back (And my post count back  ::)) and now I'm trying to get things sorted. So, I'm back as the leader, because I do not want to see this mod go down the plug hole.

I've calmed down now, and I'm ready to take on what I thought I could leave in Ackart's hands. Evidently not.

So guys, I'm back to lead this mod.

Resident Evil: Cold Blood / I'm leaving
« on: July 15, 2006, 11:21:41 PM »
Well, I've been wanting to do this for a long time, but now I'm actually going ahead with it. I'm quitting work on RE:CB and moving on to other things. I'll be going on with RE:CB Source, which will be going in a slightly different direction than this version. But first, I think I'll take a, I think, well earned break.

Why am I leaving?

- It's not fun anymore.
- I'm feeling overworked.
- I'm fed up with the constant stream of problems.
- I want to move on.
- I need to expand my horizons.
- College will be mainly this sort of work anyway.
- I'm unhappy with a few people.

And a few other nags I have. In summation, I simply do not want to continue with this project anymore, my heart's not in it. This is my decision and mine alone, and I'm sure you can appreciate my position. I'd be lying if I said all of the development was fun, but it had its moments. Adios.
