I wasn't aware of a new version of WON, but I'll see if I can find some of those patches.

I really like the WON version of Half-Life too, for the simple fact that you just have to install the game and it runs -. None of that hassle of not being able to play the game till you activate it on Steam. I don't mind Steam these days of course, they've definitely made it a lot better then it was, but WON is still much more straight forward. And the WON version is just as customizable as the Steam version. :P

WON is still superior on my book, to be honest. Steam version, however has a higher entity limit for GoldSrc games, and some other eye candy. They removed/or disabled a lot of features on Steam version for reasons unknown.

A higher entity count could be coded into the WON version without too much hassle I imagine. Still, don't know until you've tried I guess.

trigger_secret no longer works (it's something left from Quake), there're a lot of commands disabled for security reasons, etc.

The entity limit was limited just as it is in Steam. SDK for HL is the same for both anyway.

Those commands being disabled exemplify one of Steam's strengths: continual automatic patching. If they still supported WON, you'd still get that in a patch. The only difference is that you'd have to download and install it yourself. I hardly see that as a point against Steam.

.... Anyway, it gives those of us with a Pentium III (-cough-) a chance to play Half-Life.
