Quite a few people use incandescents to heat dog houses in the winter, just to clarify my point on heat.

And the reason I called them ugly is because they distract from a room if uncovered... stated by many people, partly my opinion too, but meh

It is enough to make a difference. Plus these lights make some people sick. Ever hear of that with incandescents? Doubt it.

The old ones did make people sick, because they had a noticeable flicker. They have improved a lot since then.

And they distract from a room? I can honestly say, i dont spend much time looking at the ceiling to even notice what light bulbs we have.

Also, heating a dog house with a light bulb is a stupid idea, they dont generate that much heat to warm up a dog house.

I hate how certain ones can take forever to reach their maximum brightness, they start off really dim.

Yeah they tend to light up slower when its colder, which is annoying getting up on a winter morning in pitch black

I used to have nightmares about turning on lights and the lightbulb not actually making any light, or being able to see the light bulb, and it would be illuminated, but it still wouldn't make anything else light. :'<

CFLs are also really useful in ceiling fans - the vibrations won't destroy them like it will incandescents.

Not to mention the heat that incandescents put out. Tell you what - when I need to heat my house, I'll use a heater. For the nine months out of the year when you can cook eggs on the sidewalk here in Texas, I'll use something that doesn't add anymore light in the room.

yes only lights you can get now in Finland are fluorescent. i think, i just watched the news some time ago about them. And the selection of bulbs is amazing there are yellow (wich im using) and white. Though i read now that white light makes you feel more refreshed and wake, as in yellow light makes you feel more tired.. like sunset is yellow/orange.
