Black Mesa Source?
« on: November 17, 2009, 04:51:55 PM »

As you might know, BMS is announced for 2009, and end of the year is in sight (1 1/2 month).
Recently, lots of rumors and speculations about the upcoming release of Black Mesa Source are going through their community, members reported that the forums are getting cleaned up and their website has been polished as well.

Today -09/11/17-, the BMS website nor the forums are available. (509 Bandwidth Limit Exceeded)

What do you think about that? What are BMS devs working out in the shadow of the current L4D2 release? What can we expect?

EDIT: Apparently, the admin just ordered unmetered bandwidth on the server, the limit has been completely removed now. Anyway, maybe they're just keep preparing :)

I'm sure it'll come out this year, but I don't think they'll release the mod one day before necessary...
so I'll just hold my breath another two month :)

I want to see HL:E, rather than a remake.

I don't think so. Why?
Because they still have dificult in recreate the Xen Parts.
They have to make new textures and stuff like that for Xen.
I think the mod is going to be released, but not on this year.
Its my opinion.

Not everyone is happy with the way they went. HL:E is more close to original HL.

And HLSHD too.
In BMS they recreate all maps.

I have something to ask.
I looked at the Black Mesa: Source requirements and saw that it only required a Source game (not ATi HL2DM offer), much like Garrysmod. Is this true?
I mean BM:S is a remake of HL:S, but if you own CS:S why bother with HL:S when you can get something with way better? Shouldn't the mod requirement be you need HL:S to play BM:S?
Another thing is I heard SC might have Opposing Force co-op, why buy OP4 when you can get SC for free?
If this is true, why not stick CSCZ:DS co-op in SC? Isn't VALVe losing an extremely small amount of money by this?

You're right. Just one Source account is suficient.
I'll get The Orange Box soon, so that doesn't matter to me.

Huh? It's a remake of HL1 built from the ground up using the Source engine. HL:S is basically a port of HL1 onto Source with nothing changed.
All you need is the Source Engine SDK to play Black Mesa Source, which comes with the major releases from Valve. You don't need HL:S.
So I guess that maybe Valve is losing a slight amount of money from this, but I don't think they're making that much money from HL:S to begin with.

So, you don´t need an Source game, you need the Source SDK, isn´t it?

Which you can only get officially from one of Valve's major Source engine releases.

Yeah, IIRC both teams had major setbacks and restarted their whole project, so I guess we'll have to wait a few years until something will be released...

I hope they can make the textures have the same look/feel as BMS...they wouldn't feel asconnected to each other if not, y'know? If itwereup to me thethree groups would be working together.
