Rebellion DLL Problem
« on: May 30, 2010, 02:46:02 AM »

Hello, i got a dll problem with Rebellion mod (Vengeance 2), when i start playing it, it shows this error

Game DLL version mismatch
The game DLL for rebellion appears to be outdated, check for updates

what does that mean, do i have to reinstall it, or maybe someone can modify the dll so it can play on my HL, please, i want to play this mod, for note, i attach the rebellion.dll so maybe someone would look at it.

It is probably because it was compiled with an old version of the SDK that is no longer supported. Does the mod add any new weapons/enemies? If not, you could just replace it with the normal HL dll files

Yeah, it has a couple of weapons such as MP5K, Minigun, and a 1 Round PSG, and 2 different types of HGrunt, the original, and the retextured one from the authors, so i can't just change it to original dll, i actually heard that i need to reinstall HL with lower version, problem is my HL is steam, so i can't "reinstall" it.

Not much you can do unless you can convince the developers to update their code, or get an older version of Half-Life from somewhere

So, i can't play rebellion, still, i can play rebellion with the hl dll, i just lose 3 guns, 2 grunt, and something else that was new in there. and this mod is so old, i think the devs is not gonna update the code.

Ah...this mod. I played it once. I only got it to work on WON halflife, unpatched.

Make sure it's like 1.1.0.8, not 1.0.0.0, the original doesn't recognize newer operating systems, and makes you use the CD...let me know if you need the 1.0.0.8 patch or something, I have a lot on my HDD

Just asking, does someone good with modifying dlls, once i heard that a good code modifier, can change a bad dll to a good dll, just asking, okay.

You would need the source code, then you would need to update the code for the mod to use the latest sdk, and then compile it. You can't just change the dll file to make it work.

They didn't 'break' the sdk, they updated it, along with the engine.

A lot of code was moved around, some of the engine side code was moved to the client dll. If you are using the new version of the engine, and an old client dll, this code is going to be missing.

I believe they also changed a lot of the weapon code.

In the end, we ended up with much more control over what we can do in Half-Life mods.

edit: Sending the dll file to Valve will be pointless. There is not much that can be done without the source code (other than coding it from scratch)
