Environmental effects?

What about a sun or a sunsprite like the in HL2 (I think, It's an entity there)?
Or a very thin dustlayer in the air (that could be done with coded fog), when you're outside.

env_sun, yep. It's a useful entity. An effect like this would be good in HL, and make it easier for mappers (atm you have to "draw" the sun onto the skybox, which looks rubbish because it doesnt glow properly.

Doesn't having a load of particles kill FPS terribly? Unless HL:E has a brand new particle system (wouldn't put it past em actually) I wouldn't reccommend this

Yes, we've got our own custom coded particle system, courtesy of Phil (a.k.a. prsearle). As far as I can tell, it's a pretty efficient system, not being too resource heavy.

Heh, yknow i've always wondered what would happen if all the greatest coders on the half-life scene got together. I'm betting that whatever would happen, it would involve things that would make normal coders cry.
