[SC4 V mdls] "Community standard" arms
« on: July 30, 2010, 01:31:58 AM »

Basically, I'm taking the SC4 models and hacking the "community standard" (AI HEV/BS/OF) arms on, aswell as other minor improvements such as UV and texture tweaking. This is part of a pack I'm doing of various hacks doing a variety of things  - taking old community models and restoring them for SC, such as Tony_Freeman's BMRF 92F or Iono's 1911, and hand ports. First up, SC4 M24.

v_m40a1.mdl - M24 SWS

According to Toadie, it's a Remington 700 with a removable box mag and a M8541 scope, among several other minor differences.

Either way, I took it and did some minor work to it.

 - attachment bolts - I reUV'd them to use the right texture.
 - resmoothing - I did a bit of non flatshading things.
 - Mag - I also want to do something with the magazine, which has -no- texturing to speak of besides a noise filter. Part of me wants to try my hand at texturing it with PDN, part of me just wants to go "fuck it" and hack on the mag from Sixshooters M24. I'd do that, but that bothers me because I'd have to re UV it for it to look right and be pr0 & shit. :P

Arms included:

Community "standards"
Ambient.Impact HEV Mark 4 (this reminds me WHY I HATE THESE ARMS SO MUCH T_T)
Ambient.Impact soldier (including the Redux textures and the sleeve)
Ambient.Impact Blue Shift

Others
Gearbox LD/HD soldier (basically the LD arms, but using the HD textures)
SC4 (for those that just want the improvements I did)

Ha, Kyler you rule because that is exactly what I needed for my svencoop. The only weapons left now are the M249 and Uzis  ;D

The only time it plays is when you get barnacled, which makes perfect sense since you're probably not going to be putting it back properly when something GRABS YOUR NECK AND STARTS STRANGLING THE FUCK OUT OF YOU.

What arms do you use?

Not to hijack the thread, but why not use AI's?

Well, one month ago, I rigged all my guns in HD arms with a 512x512 texture (incluiding gordon_glove.bmp), I don't know why I do that, but now all the weapons are rigged with AI's Arms.

Well some weapons have HD HEV hands and some of them have AI's and to be honest the difference is hardly noticable. Mostly because I'm using a black HEV texture.
All of the weapon models I use are from years of collecting and trying them ingame.

I only search for HEV weapon models to keep consistency in my mods  ;)

Me I prefer the SC4 arms. A little resmoothing on some of them is all they needed.

Unfortunately Kyler I cannot see the pics from this PC. But I am sure you have done a god job on these.

I included SC4 arms for those who simply want the bolts to be textured, rather than OpFor arms. :P

You could make a SC to HL hand model pack, i like the MP5, but i can't change the weapon hand whatsoever.

Next up?

Desert Eagle and Mark 2 Fragmentation grenade.

The Desert Eagle is commonly considered "the most powerful handgun in the world" and thought to be the supercannon, capable of blowing up tanks in one shot, and firing it one handedly = broken wrist. Which makes no sense considering it'd be useless if it had that much kick. Contrary to most tacticool modern games such as Counter-Strike Source and the recent Call of Duty Modern Warfare series, no military has adopted it for the simple reason "It's too big". Which is true. It's chambered for .357 Magnum, .44 Magnum or .50 Action Express, all of which are considered to be extremely powerful rounds. But power =/= usefulness. .50, .44 and .357 round are all fairly expensive compared to 9x19 or .45 ACP, which can be used for other weapons such as the M1911 or the MP5. Besides, again.. it's too fucking big. Srs. It's almost a foot long (10 inches), compared to common military sidearms such as the Glock, M9 "Beretta" and the USP.

The Sven Coop model comes with a laser sight on the end of the frame, chambered in .357 Magnum.

The Mark 2 "Pineapple" was an improved version of the Mark 1 fragmentation grenade, based off the French F1 grenade in World War 1. The original MK1 was difficult to use in combat, grenades often being improperly lit and returned by enemy soldiers, usually properly lit. This was considered unacceptable. The Mark 2 was designed to fix these problems, being put into service before the end of WWI. Prior to 1943, MK2 grenades were painted yellow for identification purposes. Post '43, they were painted olive drab with a yellow band below the fuse for camouflage purposes. They were used until Vietnam, where they were replaced by the M26 and M61 grenades.

The Sven Coop model comes in the post '43 color scheme - olive drab with a strip of yellow below the fuse. I also included the default SC4 arms with a resmoothed version for those who are bothered by poor smoothing.

No, no pix. I'm too ffff lazy. I know, I know, "no pix no clix". Idc.
