Bot Pruning.
« on: November 27, 2010, 02:33:03 PM »

I sat down today and started removing some of the bots registered.... alot...

By the time I'm writing this about 1500 members have been pruned, and I'm sure about 95% of them are bots. The rest are probably unfortunate lurkers. So if you're a lurker and find your account gone, don't be to upset... it's not like you've lost anything.
If I see anyone in the list with a post, I check out the profile and posts. If they seem like a person, I'll leave them.

I'm not going far back, only the ones registered since around august.

What's the registry page like right now? It's been a while since I've been there, did it have any anti-bot features (like a captcha, though there are probably ways to circumvent that)?

I'd noticed the bots mounting up, but didn't realise there were so many of them, good luck squashing them all!

captcha is very easy to beat now a days. It's pretty hard to stop bots

Yeah, the bots grew up, stopped playing UT and got a job in the advertising business...

I think Matt has installed some other plugins but it'll get to where it is impossible for normal people to register
