HL:S now available for $9.95
« on: October 09, 2005, 02:34:45 AM »

If you are one of those people kicking themselves for not getting a package that included HL:S, then rejoice!  It has become available as a standalone purchase through Steam!

To get it right click on your "Steam.exe" icon and in the target line add " -clientbeta betaui" (including space at the beginning) at the end of the file path.  This will enable the beta version of the new Steam layout, which indudes the new purchase options.

Enjoy!

EDIT: The new version of Steam has been released, so it is no longer necessary to add the " -clientbeta betaui" line to your .exe.  Those of you who did so, may now remove it as having it there will probably cause conflicts with the final version.

Sounds interesting, but would purchasing it work right now? Since the beta GUI is still, er, beta, I would assume that nothing it it is offical yet.

I have the Beta UI and i think it looks great... I have also noticed that it uses less RAM at idle than the original Steam version... not sure why... but any reduction is good to me :)

Thanks Frrakk for the "-clientbeta betaui" command :)

Do you have to buy it over steam? or can you buy at a shop?

You have to buy it over Steam.

You could always buy the Collectors Edition Retail on DVD... it may be hard to find a copy though.

So then what was the purpose of you saying "That's good but I already have HL:S" That implies that it's good and all that it's 9.95, but there wasn't any purpose in Frrak pointing this out, because you already own the game.
