PS2 additives
« on: October 16, 2005, 05:21:52 AM »

Ok now if you've played the PS2 version of Half-Life there are some well can good added extras to Half-Life which I think would just make HL:S HD alot better... here are some screenies. There orsm.

Sorry if this has been brought up before.

Edit: On second thoughts forget this HEV charger, I believe it contradicts Half-Life2.

 ;D

Im actually trying to find some nice high def models that may be welcome changes. I remember some old places were I saw some really improved models, so hopefully I can track them down again.

We can't do that as it would breach laws... but thanks for the thought anyway.

As long as you don't charge money for the mod it breachs nothing, just so you know. Valve indorse modifications, hense the reason they released the SDK pack to owners of the Source engine and games that accompany it, you can do endless amounts to HL:S. adding materials from HL2 to HL:S is more than legal, and more than approved of from Valve.

Its not like your taking material from Half-life2 to put into quake, this is Half-life to Half-life and its perfectly legitimate.

If its not id like to know were they said that...

I'm sure i remember reading it somewhere...

As for us... well here we have our "Forum Guidelines"  http://www.hl-improvement.com/forums/index.php?topic=2160.0

As you can see one of those guidelines is "No HL2 Content"

Sorry Man this is mainly due to avoid legal issues before they arise.

I would love to port the HEV & health charging stations from the PS2 version into HL:S, but since they are models built into the maps... and we do not have the map files to decompile and recompile with the new models, we cannot.  This is the primary reason we have not.

We thought we had some updated texutures for the two stations, but even those have proved to be a difficult to make work ingame.

Excellent idea nonetheless.  Thanks for the screen shots!

I can add health & hev chargers with Entspy program but I don't want to do it. You know it's a model pack, NOT map pack.

Well its something you see everywhere, and the old ones look pretty crap house and pixelated now so I thought updating them would be a good idea. Hell even if the HD pack borrow the HEV, Scanner and Med from HL:E, but then again I now sure what the whole connection is here being a newb, but yeah.  :)

Cause I know Besli posted the Hev charger they had done over at BM:S forums and I was impressed, it was very orsm work.

I think it ceased to be just a model pack when we added Besli's texture pack, updated sprites and menus.  At this point an "HD" pack better describes what we are doing.

If you can port working versions into Source I would say that would be a very desirable addition.  However, it is your decision.  If you want to, go for it.

Agreed.

Besli has tried ruthlessly to get that texture to work in Source and it has consistently refused to do so without numerous problems.  If we find a way we would still like to do so, but I wouldn't hold your breath.  ;D

Agreed

I think HLS-HD is more a "State Of Mind" LOL

Thats the good thing about the name... it casts a wide shadow and allows us to incorporate a lot into the pack :)

I changed my mind about model chargers, I'd like to add them but I need a good health charger model. I don't want to use PS2 health charger model cuz HL1:S is not supporting animated health charger model... :-\

Good to hear!  I think they would be an excellent addition.  I'll help look around for some alternatives.  Is it possible to make the PS2 version static (not animated)?

Those are the ones Besli has not been able to get working in Source
