Beretta chrome
« on: November 27, 2005, 07:50:56 PM »

Hey guys. One of the bugs we all know about is the beretta, the texture problem, where the barrel thing does not have chrome like the HL1 pistol has. Its just solid black where it should be chrome. What do i edit in the vmt file to make it chrome? Here's whats listed in it already.

chrome_black.vmt:

"VertexLitGeneric_DX6"
{
   "$envmap" "models\v_9mmhandgun/chrome_black"
   "$envmapsphere"         1
   "$envmapmode" 1
   "$multipass" 1
}

is "$chrome" 1 a possible command to make it have chrome?

I don't believe you need the "_DX6" when pertaining to colored chrome, plus you do not have a "$basetexture" command or file path.

The file structure for the latest beta looks to be a bit different from what you have, but this is what the current "wp_beretta_chrome.vmt" file, taken from the "materials/models/hassassin" folder, looks like:

"VertexLitGeneric"
{
   "$baseTexture"    "models/v_9mmhandgun/chrome_black"
   "$envmap" "models/hassassin/hassn-env"
   "$envmapsphere"         1
   "$envmapmode" 1
   "$multipass" 1
}

In our set up, the "v_9mmhandgun" uses the textures from this file.

Let us know how it goes.  If it still does not work I'd like to know.

We will try to be of any service we can.

This maybe unrelated but the Magnum also seems to be fairly dark as well... at least on my PC at any rate :(

This maybe due to my Dodgy HP Pavilion M70 Monitor though :(

You could try:

"VertexLitGeneric_DX6"
{
   "$basetexture" "models\v_9mmhandgun\chrome_black"
}

See how that goes :)

I know the best solution:
Use another model. Seriously, most people are allready tired of the hd beretta anyway...

Sorry for waiting so long. Flynia, your idea did do something, but i can't say its better, here's what happened.

Its just plain gray and changes a little when moving around. Doesn't look right though

Hmmm thats not good :(

The "grey" seems to be when the Source Engine dosen't render a texture correctly due to a VMT command :( ... Correct me if I am wrong team :)

In this case it might be best to default back to the original.

Isn't that the case when you see the purple and black checkerboard effect?

Most occasions the "purple and black" checkerboard effect is due to missing texture files or wrongly specified paths in the VMT file.

This case is a little different though as the texture is their... just the wrong commands are in place for it.

In detail.

These chrome effects were exhibited during play in HL:S:DM.  I am not sure as to whether it is an occurance of this game, but it should work nonetheless.  All models are HD except for the crossbow.

Here we have the beretta.  Notice the barrel and how it's gray, but a little line of messed up chrome shows.  It is much brighter than regular, but that's only because I modified the .vtf a bit myself.  Don't ask me what happened to the glove.

chrome_black.vmt
Code: [Select]
"VertexLitGeneric"
{
"$basetexture" "models\v_9mmhandgun\chrome_black"

"$envmap" "models\v_9mmhandgun/chrome_black"

"$envmapsphere" 1

"$envmapmode" 1

"$multipass" 1
}

Probably forgot the basetexture, but I don't remember modifying that out.

rubbergloveCHROME.vmt
Code: [Select]
"VertexLitGeneric"
{
"$envmap" "models\v_9mmhandgun/rubbergloveCHROME"
"$envmapsphere" 1
"$envmapmode" 1
"$multipass" 1
}

Here is the crossbow, a shining example of not only magnificent modelling and skinning, but of a weird texture pattern that occurs on the gloves.  Notice the scope works fine, which may or [probably] may not be an example of working chrome effects.

There are two rubberglove textures, I do not know why.

gordon_glove_Chrome.vmt
Code: [Select]
"VertexLitGeneric"
{
"$baseTexture" "models\v_crossbow/gordon_glove_Chrome"
"$envmap" "models\v_crossbow/gordon_glove_Chrome"
"$envmapsphere"         1
  "$envmapmode" 1
// requred to see specular on dx6+7 at all
"$multipass" 1
}

rubbergloveCHROME.vmt
Code: [Select]
"VertexLitGeneric_DX6"
{
"$envmap" "models\v_crossbow/rubbergloveCHROME"

"$envmapsphere" 1

"$envmapmode" 1

// requred to see specular on dx6+7 at all
"$multipass" 1
}

Next, we have the shotgun, another example of this peculiar pattern.

rubbergloveCHROME.vmt
Code: [Select]
"VertexLitGeneric"
{
"$baseTexture" "models\v_shotgun/rubbergloveCHROME"
"$envmap" "models\v_shotgun/rubbergloveCHROME"
"$envmapsphere" 1
"$envmapmode" 1

// requred to see specular on dx6+7 at all
"$multipass" 1
}

Next, the python.  Kind of self-explanatory.  Looks kinda pretty, though.  Don't it?

bluesteelchrome.vmt
Code: [Select]
"VertexLitGeneric"
{
"$baseTexture" "models\v_357/bluesteelchrome"
"$envmap" "models\v_357/bluesteelchrome"
"$envmapsphere" 1
"$envmapmode" 1
}

gordon_glove.vmt
Code: [Select]
"VertexLitGeneric"
{
"$baseTexture" "models\v_357/gordon_glove"
"$envmap" "models\v_357/gordon_glove"
"$envmapsphere"         1
    "$envmapmode" 1
  "$multipass" 1
}

rubbergloveCHROME.vmt
Code: [Select]
"VertexLitGeneric_DX6"
{
"$baseTexture" "models\v_357/rubbergloveCHROME"
"$envmap" "models\v_357/rubbergloveCHROME"
"$envmapsphere" 1
"$envmapmode" 1

// requred to see specular on dx6+7 at all
"$multipass" 1
}

Next, we have an effect similar to turning off "chrome" in JHLMV for weapons in HL1.  This is displayed in the Gauss Cannon's barrel, the glove texture, and the lense in the tripbomb.

gaussCHROME.vmt
Code: [Select]
"VertexLitGeneric_DX6"
{
"$baseTexture" "models\v_gauss/gaussCHROME"
"$envmap" "models\v_gauss/gaussCHROME"
"$envmapsphere" 1
"$envmapmode" 1

// requred to see specular on dx6+7 at all
"$multipass" 1
}

Tripmine .vmts

lensCHROME.vmt
Code: [Select]
"VertexLitGeneric_DX6"
{
"$envmap" "models\v_tripmine/lensCHROME"
"$envmapsphere" 1
"$envmapmode" 1

// requred to see specular on dx6+7 at all
"$multipass" 1
}

rubbergloveCHROME.vmt
Code: [Select]
"VertexLitGeneric_DX6"
{
"$envmap" "models\v_tripmine/rubbergloveCHROME"
"$envmapsphere" 1
"$envmapmode" 1

// requred to see specular on dx6+7 at all
"$multipass" 1
}

That's about it.

In a concluding statement, I'd just like to say

Help  :-\

Currently we are not really into HLS HD Pack and support for HLS: DM

We will be looking at it in the future though... that correct team?
