"Realistic" skill.cfg for Sven Co-op
« on: June 23, 2005, 05:09:27 PM »

I've been hording this for a long time... made it myself. It's still in progress (critique is welcome, just no flaming. :P), and fixes almost everything to have a more realistic HP-count, consistent damages between NPCs and players and more realistic damages.

Changes include:
+ Humans have 100HP (UPDATE: tweaked to satisfy armor-wearing human NPCs).
+ Shotguns kill almost all humans/humanoids with use of double-buckshot (for the shottie whores among us).
+ Changed hornet, shotgun and MP5/M4 damage to be consistent between players and NPCs that use the same weapons.
+ Crowbar damage upped.
+ More realistic head, torso, etc. damage multipliers.
+ Other crap I forget at the moment.

UnRAR to "\Steam\SteamApps\(yourusernamehere)\half-life\SvenCoop\" .
Have fun with this, and play smart (HEAL HEAL HEAL!)!

EDIT: Updated it to tweak HP for armor-wearing human NPCs.

Cool! I'll use it for when I play with my friend (who's new to Sven Co-op, I'm mean [damn, no devil smiley]) or with a bunch of bots.

I've tried something like yours before on my server before, but it didn't work quite well I think. Things die way too easily, both enemies and players. The maps seemed kind of easy and it really annoys the players when you constantly die, respawn, and have to run all the way back again. But good config, min!

You realise that in 3.5 monsters will be able to run and shoot at the same time, right?

What difference does that make?

<cheesy gman quote>

Try playing sven right now, most of the CURRENT maps are messed up just because enemies can now get over a small hill or drop off a ledge, that alone makes a lot of maps a hell of a whole lot harder. Just imagine what it will be like when they can do all of this while shooting at you. Then there is the matter of the AI's perfect accuracy.

Remember They Hunger? yeah, manke actually had to go in and FORCE the enemies to be less accurate.

Most monsters aren't 100% accurate. I think only the Alien Slaves are. Certainly the monsters that use guns aren't 100% accurate anyway.

They're hardly Mexicans, though.
They get a few more headshots at extreme range than the MP5 should permit.

EDIT: Possible alterations.
if you want realism, you need a damage multiplier for torso shots.

You may want to take down the crowbar damage. May.
Please note that powerful explosions have large blast radii, which may lead to (rather amusing) TKing.
It's OK to have players go down in 2 hits, it just means that they have to fight smarter.
Possibly bump up monsters' bullet damage.
The agrunt needs more health.
Islave zaps may need to do more damage.
Or not, considering their respawn.
Garg sk_gargantua_dmg_fire is a powerful weapon. Use it wisely.
It's fun to survive a hard battle. It's not fun to fight one on 20 health.
Please increase the health and armour gain from both powerups and dispensers.
You won't regret it.

I'll repost my realistic skill.cfg as a reference.
(It's my sole contribution towards the HL-playing world.)
IGNORE the Easy setting.

whats wrong with making them harder to kill? I for one welcome a challenge. And AI do not have perfect accuracy
