Minor Release (Half-Life: Uplink as mod)
« on: January 31, 2007, 11:28:51 AM »

This is only a minor modification I thought I'd release. Most people won't have need for this. Anyhow, it's the levels from the Half-Life: Uplink demo set up to run as a mod to Half-Life 1.1.1.0 (WON). The main reason for this release is because I had previously downloaded other similar mods that install directly in the 'valve' directory, but found they required their own titles.txt and sentences.txt. I found it rather inconvenient having to switch these files dependant on whether I wanted to play either the full single player game, or Uplink. I've also included a replacement for c1a4_sci_rocket.wav which resolves a problem with the scientist in the dark corner before seeing the first zombies and only affects the Uplink levels. The logo.avi from the demo is also included. I'll add some screenshots in the next post.

Credits: Valve Software, for creating the Half-Life demo.

Edit: Download all four parts of the archive to the same directory.

Edit 2: According to the Wikipedia entry for Half-Life: Uplink, it was included with the Game of the Year Edition as a mod. I own the Game of the Year Edition, and it isn't. ???

Here are the screenshots. Note that in the second screenshot, the inclusion of Blue Shift is because of Blue Shift Unlocked 1.1, rather than my own work. I just modified it to look as an official expansion would. Credit should go to its creators for that.

Ah the good old days. I remember when I first played Uplink. I didnt even had internet connection, I bought a computer game magazine, and it was on the CD that came with it.
I played it in software mode, and I was actually scared from the zombies and headcrabs  ;D and when i had my first fight with the Hgrunts, I was like : Oh my god these guys are sooo smart!

Thanks for bringing this memory back!
I would download the mod, but I dont even have Half Life installed anymore.

I remember playing this at 320x240 in software mode. Was only the second or third FPS I had played at the time, with the previous being some Doom version five or so years before. After playing I just had to get Half-Life.

Nice idea, but I found Uplink made as a mod somewhere long time ago. But good, many people will sure like it.

Haha damn this brings back memories, it would be cool if there was a mod that continued on past the garg.

No, I believe it was always made for Half-life 1.

Nice mod, it's better than original Uplink IMO, and I like how the author modified 9mmAR's magazine capacity(30 rounds)

Yes. It was very unnormal that MP5 had 50 rounds in magazine. I see there's maximal limit of 30 bullets for sub-machineguns.

Actually you can get extended clips for MP5s that have 50 bullets. They aren't standard though, so it is a bit bizarre that every soldier in Half-Life has an extended 50 bullet magazine.

Actually they don't, they just drop 50 bullets in their clips. Which is a little odd.

Code: [Select]
#define GRUNT_CLIP_SIZE 36 // how many bullets in a clip? - NOTE: 3 round burst sound, so keep as 3 * x!
Which means the they have 12 bursts of 3 bullets before they have to reload.
