[Demo and effects mod] HLFX & Single Demo

I'm sure most of you remember the old release of the HLFX mod, but I wasn't aware of the HLFX SP demo. Both include alot of new graphical features added to the Goldsource engine. This includes:
  • shadows (didn't work for me in the FX mod, but works pretty well in the single demo)
  • bumpmaps and specular
  • reflections (looks like the FX mod only)
  • high-res texture support (max size is 2048 for the demo)
  • bloom
  • detail textures (it actually allows two detail textures to work at the same time for a texture)
  • some cool heat wave effect after explosions and alot more


I prefer messing around with the demo between the two, but the demo is missing some models (when you use it to play the HL SP) and the sound acts weird once you get in water.

I just played and it's the nicest improvement I've ever seen for HL1! And believe it or not, it looks so good that it lags me!

works in steam, just point it to the steam HL1 folder and run teh short cut on your desktop.  Oh this was funny, i closed the blast door on the first level and is squished one zombie and i blew the other ones head crab off and all it was was a body with a red head so i shot its head off and it died.

I just noticed its using HL2 blood splats and bullet holes.. is that legal?

I will have to give this a go, too bad the download speeds are sucking for me...

They seem to be fairly slow for me aswell,I was getting about 15kbs.

Just a little update, but I found out how to add in your own texture replacements into the demo.

  • Create a gfx->texture->demo folder inside the hlfx_single folder
  • Place whatever texture you want and name it whatever (Be sure to save it as a .jpg file)
  • Extract the demo.shader file from the pak to the "shader" folder in hlfx_single so you can edit the file (notepad will work)
  • add in a parameter for whatever wad texture you want to replace, will look something like this:

  • Save the file and then you're done
The file doesn't have to be put in the demo shader (hell I think you can make your own shader) but it's what I used to add in my custom textures. I'm not sure yet how to add normal maps yet but I will let you guys know when I find out.

use the run.ms-dos file to start it on steam while steam is running

Are you russian? because there is a english patch download right below the reg download.

This mod uses HL2 Bullet holes and blood splats and other misc textures. i don't think thats legal.
