From what I gather, it's some advanced lighting technique that's supposed to make a map look more realistic

I have the collector's edition - its the same as the silver pack.

i dont htink it is...i have silver...(definatly the best buy, has all the games and doesnt make u waste money on like posters and excess stuff) and i have heard a lot of people complaining about how collectors doesnt have dod:s....so thats wat ive heard//

Edit: wow that was dumb sry my internet didnt load page rite, so it didnt show that there were more pages... also, HDR is (high (definition (range lighting. it recreates lifelike lighting effects such as adjusting to brightness/darkness and water/surface reflections. previously unmade so its the real deal kinda thing. on the topic of remaking the hl2 game, yeah hes rite they will only include it in portions where it adds to the effect, and where it is wanted (like in ravenholm it might not be that good cept for allowing ur eyes to adjust, but like u dont want ravenholm to get all shiney and pretty. but parts like root canal, highway 17, etc look good with it, so they are adding it.

I have Retail Collectors Edition as i wanted a Physical Disk for Backup purposes :)

Never really gave a crap about DOD:S as i dont play multiplayer games often enough to credit it... guess ill just have to stick with CS: Source and HL2: Deathmatch instead ;)

I always have Battlefield 1942 :P

As for HDR:- http://www.bit-tech.net/gaming/2005/06/14/hl2_hdr_overview/1.html

That will explain everything :)

Cheers flynia

/somewhat off topic - Play Forgotten Hope (greatest mod for BF1942!).

And HDR is a lighting effect used in rendering.  Two cool things I like about it are that light reflects off the surface (ie The Sun!), and that neat effect like when you wear your sunglasses for 5 hours and then take them off, feels like you are being blinded.

Or play Desert Combat (also a BF1942 mod), much better than the game itself 8).

also, HDR is (high (definition (range lighting.

*Dynamic*, not definition.

And also, didn't they say they were adding it to *all* of HL2? This isn't some mod.... it's an upgrade to the engine.

Well, the original topic was erroneous, and I am surprised that it hadn't been locked after they explained why you don't *sign up*.

Ok. . Then why not lock this thread seeing the answer is right there, preventing unwanted offtopiciness (if that's a word. .).

If this topic does get locked or something then, I go [offtopic] Anakite I'm pretty sure they are adding it to the Source Engine (or HL2 engine, whatever the crap). Also I'm wondering [sarcasm] Can I be beta-tester ?[/sarcasm] [/ontopic]

GRR.. the sarcasm in the net dosen't feel the same as saying it in real life  >:(
