Again, sorry for caps, but HOLY SHIT!! This just seem to come from nowhere. Includes singleplayer, Village (training), and Alamo (custom add-on). Has ragdolls and such. I wonder if folks will port Invasion anytime soon.

I've just been on the Heart of Evil website (found it in my favourites and thought it was a dead link) and it had an article on someone using the source files uploaded there. I will download this tommorow  ;D

Yeah, the article on the site is about Heart of Evil Enhancement Pack, which is a different thing to Heart of Evil Source.

...or find someone with 64 Bit processor to compile every map for you (seriously, there are lots of maps).

Yeah but they could have taken the time to port the maps properly.  As it stands this is a pretty poor port which incredibly looks worse than the original!  No doubt the team behind it could ultimately deliver something better if they put the hours in, but just about the only improvement here are the ragdolls (which HOE already had rudimentary versions of anyway) and the water. 

They could add full HDR and improved textures; and from the sounds of things they need to improve the NPC coding

Barnz, surely if Nathan had the time back in 2000 (or whenever it was) to compile all the maps, then someone with a modern PC shouldn't have any trouble compiling them?

I'd do it, but I don't know the first thing about mapping, let alone for source (and if it's more complicated than just compiling MODELS for source, then I doubt I'll ever learn either.)

It's pretty easy to pick up, certainly much easier than modelling; in fact this would probably be a good learning exercise since all the geometry and entities are already done. 

For a simple convert all you do is open up Source Tools > Hammer (needs to be the source version)
Once you've got Hammer open you want to convert the HOE wad textures to VMT format - which Hammer will do for you, just click on the "WAD to VMT" in the File menu.
In the maps look for any textures which begin with ! (eg !Water) these textures all need to be replaced with Source Liquids - which is easy to do with the Replace Textures function (Tools > Replace Textures)
Then just open up the HOE map files and export them to VMF.
Compile the maps using TCG Compiler

Entities might need changing, depending on which Source game you port to

This is just the bare minimum you need to do in order to port to Source, doing other stuff like inserting Props and higher res textures is pretty easy to do.

Well I assume the porter (Nathan something) was having trouble with lighting, so he probably made it unlit because of that.

Edit: I don't have an FGD to work with.
