[HL2] Get A Life
« on: April 27, 2008, 12:10:21 PM »

Have any of you guys seen/played this?

It does look rather spiffy...

http://halflife2.filefront.com/file/HalfLife_2_Get_a_Life_Mod;89532

Description:
Get a Life is a FPS Single player action/adventure total-conversion for Half-Life 2.

    * 4 chapters (a total of 20 different maps) offering almost 7 hours of gameplay
    * Gripping story about the main character Alex Zemlinsky, who is trying to learn everything about his mysterious past
    * 10 different weapons, 3 of them upgradable with modules
    * Features a variety of enemies, with heights ranging from 2 centimeters to 2 meters, and a "gore and gib" system
    * Unique gameplay:-

# Enhanced AI (including squads and advanced combat tactics such as taking cover and fear behavior), developed in cooperation with the E.Y.E. mod team
# New healing system with several body damage zones and diseases
# Bullet-time system
# Survival (fight off waves of enemies coming at you) and sneak passages (making noise just makes it harder).

Interesting....

It does indeed look good, although bullet-time is so overused.I'll give it a try.

The npc's look like they belong in Love Parade :P There are some weird nazis in suits (but you can still hear the military webbing jingle as they move :P) and some blue robo-monkeys shooting at you; a lot of levels are composed of random colors, which is annoying and looks just horrible. It all looks silly and jolly, generally not serious, so wtf is that realistic player damage system for?
The level design and storytelling are poor to mediocre. It's quite bugged too.

I've played through about 70% of the game, but the only thing that keeps me playing is relatively unchanged HL2 gameplay machanics; so far 3/10 from me.

Oh my god... those models look terrible.  The mapping looks aesthetically pleasing, but I get the impression it plays like crap + oh god ANOTHER FUCKING ZOMBIE MOD.

The models are pretty much the lower end of industry standard at the time the mod began production, they just don't have awesome shader's and normal maps. I will download the mod in my spare time it looks fantastic, but unoriginal.

It keeps crashing for me.  Although I did get one map working (lowered my eye candy to medium).  I wasn't impressed.

Shame really, because the File Front screens made it look awesome.

Well, the mod is decent.
I loved especially the beginning of the game. Sort of gives me a Postal-like atmosphere.
It was fun, but I stopped playing due to... well, you'll see.

Overall, it's worth playing.

Very good mod.
At the beginning the HUd isn't very intuitive, but after a while it explains it to you.

There's quite a few small mapping bugs and the NPCs can be very overpowering if you don't use bullet time.
Sometimes the flares don't work on some surfaces, making some parts near-impossible. Having said that, there is a patch to v1.1 but I havn't tried that.
There's also some bugs with the closed captions (Although it does work quite well.) and the voices aren't as clear as they should be.

Very scary, also.

Here's an update (1.1)

http://halflife2.filefront.com/file/HalfLife_2_Get_a_Life_V1_11_Patch;89646

Mainly addresses bugs, makes patching bleeding easier, plus other small fixes.
