Converting HL2 models to HL1
« on: August 06, 2008, 09:05:14 AM »

Hello to all,

For those of you who are looking for knowledge regarding the steps taken to convert a Source Model to a GoldSource Model (HL2 to HL1) heres a tutorial by aaron_da_killa on just that.

http://www.snarkpit.net/editing.php?page=tutorials&game=HL&id=227

For information on rigging your converted models to an existing HL1 skeleton, refer to Sliders step by step tutorial:
http://www.hl-improvement.com/forums/index.php?topic=9069.0

Obviously the conversions made should be for personnel use only, as it is illegal to redistribute Converted Source models on public forums such as H.I.T.

But why would anyone want to do this? Without the vertex weights most of the rigs will look like total shit  :-\

The vertex weights are only used for ragdolls. You can do things like convert the headcrab model.

You don't know what a vertex weight is do you?
They're used in nearly every non-rigid rigs for Source.

Yes, they're used for nearly every non-rigid model for Source so that they can use ragdolls.

A ragdoll doesn't need vertex weights, what the vertex weights do is smooth out vertexes between two bones.
