Suggestions for the tram ride
« on: August 16, 2008, 04:56:41 PM »

I have a few suggestions for the, yep, you guessed it, tram ride intro:

1. Change the Apache seen in the canyon to something else. Why would Black Mesa have Apaches, especially ones that say "Army" on the side? A more "civilian" helicopter would make more sense.
2. Make the Barney banging on the door at the beginning have no armour to ensure consistency with Blue Shift. Same goes for any Barneys waiting for trams.
3. Have a few scientists not wearing labcoats, especially the ones about to get on trams.
4. Have a few construction workers doing stuff, such as the place where a piece of rocket is being moved by a crane.
5. Some of the forklifts could have crates on them.
6. make me all hl beta files i need by thurs

Lol, I know that #6! It's somewhere around here in the forums. #1's a good point, #2 too.

Maybe a civilian Apache? No weapons and camo.

Probably. Like retired ones. But I live the idea of a basic chopper better.

I doubt it, Apaches are frontline assault helis. If they're crippled, they're probably scrapped, not sold to civilian companies.

But Black Mesa is a government organisation.

Weavile's got a point. It's a secret research facility so there should be some military personnel there. This gave me an idea... Friendly Grunts? :P

You do have a point.

But we're arguing over a moot point.

Apache stays, I hope?

The FBI is a government organisation, and it doesn't use Apaches. Plus, there clearly aren't any military personnel there. The only ones you ever see in the game try to kill you. Black Mesa is supposed to be non-military.

The FBI doesn't develop guns, missiles, or work on portal technology. Black Mesa does.

Like Kyler says, the Apache should stay. It's foreshadows a part of the storyline.

It develops weapons and works on portal technology, but it doesn't develop missiles. Just because it does those things, it doesn't mean that it should have a fully armed military attack helicopter. Gun factories don't have Apaches, now, do they? And portal technology is scientific work, not military work.

BMRF is a top-secret military base, previously a large missile launch facility.

It's gonna be well-guarded.

Apaches?

Sure, why not!

But, in all honesty, this is something -really- trivial to be quibbling over. It's a stationary prop seen in the intro for less than 60 seconds.

As Weavile mentioned, it foreshadows much worse to come. Leave it in there. Of course, it's not really a major spoiler, considering there's a 99% chance everybody who'll be playing HLE has beaten HL at least once, or knows what happens, so... leave it there. :P

Maybe you could start in Gordon's room and walk down to the tram? The room could be nothing more than a prop bed, door, and maybe a desk.
