Soldier Behaviour
« on: September 12, 2008, 01:54:46 AM »

I find it strange how every single Marine in Half-Life stands up straight with his firearm up in the air, looking left and right repeatively.

So why not have some of the soldiers pacing around, sleeping, or crouched like a nub?

You'd probably stay on your toes if you were in a combat zone where anything might pop up + eat you... or disembowel you... or just generally kill you... at any time..

Crouching, I like. Pacing, they do already, a bit.

Hmm yeah, crouching kinda like what the non-CT soldiers do in PARANOIA.

The soldier's head is turning but he can't see you when you're beside him...

More idle animations would be nice. Or even a few scripted scenes.

I have an idea for an idle animation, the grunt's picking his nose lol. (Would look silly when the Gas Mask Grunt is picking his though...)

New idle animation idea... How about the grunt's scratching his neck or somewhere else, a few scripted sequences are nice too because it's fun to watch them.

Not the neck, but ...     ;)
That would be funny, and realistic as well  :D

Why not the neck?

A couple scripted animations, some grunts talking, one leaning against the wall, scratching his neck, the other, rifle cradled in hand, at ease, then... they get ambushed, by an Agrunt teleporting in... or an Islave.

Or something.

IDK.

...maybe for the Garg scene in "On A Rail"?

You peek into the tunnel to see a pair of Grunts chatting easily, leaning against the wall. One spots you + yells "Freeman!", both turning to shoot at you.... then that Garg teleports in; one yells "Oh, shit!" + both start shooting at the garg, ignoring you + letting you slip into the tunnel with the pipe + Islaves as normal. :P

Or instead of "Freeman!" how about "What was that sound?!" That's if GL's grunt speeches are used.

Meh.

If a grunt sees you, Gordon Freeman, a distinctly visible man in a bright orange hazard suit and carrying a SPAS12 shotgun (Going by the menu image with Freeman carrying a shotgun.), you'd think he'd alert his buddies of Freeman's presence, who has been hunting + killing his buddies, and, you believe, is responsible for this whole incident.

Soldiers should hit you with the butt of their rifles/shotguns and punch you instead of kicking you all the time, too.
