[C++] How to install Visual C++ 6.0
« on: January 01, 2009, 10:09:03 AM »

Hello,

For my first post at HIT, this tutorial is going to show you how to install Visual C++ 6.0.

But, one time, the installer is going to get you crazy with a FREAKING error : "C:\Documents not found"

No worries buddy, Shepard62700FR is going to help you very easly.

Reload your guns, check your armor, prepare to fight ! LET'S GO !

This is what your need :
- CD of Visual C++ 6.0
- DCOM98 (Included in the CD of Visual C++ 6.0)
- Virtual Machine for Java (Included in the CD of Visual C++ 6.0)

1) INSTALLING VIRTUAL MACHINE FOR JAVA
Put the CD of Visual C++ 6.0 in your CD/DVD reader, close the autorun and go to your "CD/DVD READER LETTER:\IE4".
There is a file called "MSJAVX86.exe" open it and install it.

2) INSTALLING DCOM98
If you run DCOM98's installer it will say DCOM98 works only for Windows 95 and 98.

But Shepard62700FR has the solution to kill this protection !

Open Windows Console (Start Menu -> Execute -> cmd -> OK).

Then put this : CD/DVD READER LETTER:\DCOM98\DCOM98.EXE /C /T:C:\DCOM98
This command will launch DCOM98's installer, but it won't install DCOM98, it will extract files in the installer in C:\DCOM98.
So go to C:\DCOM98, right click on "Install.ini" or "Install.inf" and click on "Install".
Windows will copy the files properly.

3) INSTALLING VC++ 6.0
Go to "My computer", then right click on your CD/DVD reader where VS6.0's CD is and click on Autorun.
Follow instructions, if you follow goodly this tutorial then it won't ask you for DCOM98 and Virtual Machine for Java.

Once you complete this tutorial, just simply restart your computer and start GoldSrc coding !

I strongly recommand you use ArrangeMode sourcecode available at AR Software forum to have a mod that have Spirit of Half-Life and some others things to have a beautiful mod.

Good Luck in GoldSrc coding !

Doesn't Visual Studio 6.0 just install by following the onscreen instructions? At least it did for me when i last installed it. Much better to use a later version of Visual Studio though
