hey I wanted to ask you something  but I decidet not to start a topic so Are you by any chance using face poster? Now I don't have my HL2 inbstalled at tye moment and I can't check out if you are and also I did notice VALVe did use a bit of face poster on some models in HL:S.The fresh and clean memory I have is the Gman, he had a lot of expresions added. Now I do know it CAN'T be made like the HL2 characters but I remember that even in the original HL the PS2 models(that HIT  and you are using) had a lot more expresions, and I am wondering can that be improved or that is the limit of their capabilities

To my knowledge we are using the default animations to stick with the original style of the game.
Post the topic though as i might be wrong.

Cheers flynia

Now I say it again so there are no misunderstandings:
1.I am just suggesting the use of face poster if the dev. team and the users agreeand it worth doing so
2.I am not aiming to say the models expressions should be like the HL2 becxause it's unposible(IMO), and also it wont fit in as flynia said.

To my knowledge, they didn't use Faceposer on HLS. Gman has always had facial movement due to extra bones in his head. Even if they did, I can imagine that it would be hard to implement - mainly because the SD models already have facial expressions in the animations.

I see OK then that's all clear.
So even if someon was to try to improve the facial exprecions it would be way to hard or imposible Huh

Just forget it, no one wants to re-animate all models...

Watch it, sappy. In both cases, you have been proven to be the one over-reacting, so I wouldn't keep on about it if I was you.
...I doubt Barneyinblue is going to be pleased with your comment.

Me and others just trying to convert HD stuff to Source Engine. We are not trying to create new facial expressions or something like that here.

Anyway, I think creating facial expressions for HD models is quite pointless. First we need to find a guy who understands everything about 3D Studio Max (or Softimage XSI)/Face Poser Tool and a coder to add choreograph entity in to the HL1:Source.

Then we've to change/edit maps to add facial expressions in to the HL1:Source. (I believe adding them in to the HL1:Source could take too much time).

I think, no one in HL:S HD team wants to work on Face Posing...

Agreed.  It would be too difficult to implement to be cost efficient.

HL:S HD is fine enough without Faceposer.

Man I didn't mean the HL:S HD team.I was just wondering how much work it would require if someone(not the HL:S HD team) did,I agree it is way too much, but that is the only thing I wanted to know after Sgt Wilko's first post.

P.S.Sorry if I offended you barneyinblue :-[ it's seem just kind of strange that I try to be as clear as posible when I post and it aint workin' quite right

they would have to add like 50 bones in the face and make a tool for them to move or animate them all

No, we don't need to add new bones. We have to add 40 (or more) flexes on the face of every human character.

You mean that they can be improved, really close to what a HL2 model can do? Shocked
Huh  I would really appreciate it if you tell me,not asking that someone does it, just for educating myself.

Yes, models can be detailed as hl2 models...
