Well I assume the porter (Nathan something) was having trouble with lighting, so he probably made it unlit because of that.
He could at least have seen if it all worked properly. I know someone that can fix problems like this, so I'll see if he has enough free time.

Nope, lighting shouldn't be an issue.  All the light entities should be the same, lighting just takes a while to compile - they were being lazy.
You might need to associate certain materials (source textures) with lights, which you can do in a file called lights.rad (just do a search for it on your hard drive, it'll come up if you have hammer installed).

I should mention that skybox names will need changing, since the HL1 skyboxes can't be ported.  So you'll have to use skyboxes from HL2/etc.

Nathan Ruck had the original HOE, some other guy did the port.

As for the conversion to source of hoe ep, we will see when its done, but I dont think I'd have a problem with it. But its a bit early to say Tongue

This port is simply that, a direct port, very hack and slash. The full bright maps totally ruin the whole thing imo.

Like I said, I don't know the first thing about mapping. I've made a box room in hammer and made it playable in HLDM. that's it.

Yes, and no... overall its actually worse than the original, since the maps aren't properly ported, and the monsters run too fast for some reason.
The only plus sides are that it has water shaders and ragdolls; and its quite interesting that they managed to port the content over to Source (coding too)

Plus the fact that the commands you could give to friendly npc's are gone. No commands at all. They might as well be rocks with guns tied to them! Angry

Barney's AI is far better, and the animations are smoother.

The mod's been updated. It now uses the Orange Box Engine and it looks like they added lighting to the maps.
